The upcoming anime film 100 Meters (Hyakuemu), adapted from Uoto’s manga, continues to build excitement as it reveals additional cast members. With a Japanese premiere slated for September 19, 2025, followed by a North American release in October courtesy of GKIDS, the film is shaping up to be a highly anticipated sports drama.

A Growing Roster of Talent

On June 25, 2025, the official announcement of ten more cast members added further depth to the already stellar lineup. These new additions promise to enrich the narrative and bring Uoto’s characters to life with vibrant performances.

Here are the newly announced cast members:

  • Jun Kasama as Nigami, Togashi’s teammate
  • Rie Takahashi as Asakusa, a high school girl who invites Togashi onto the team
  • Yuki Tanaka as Shiina, a high school girl on the team
  • Atsumi Tanezaki as young Togashi in elementary school

These actors join the previously announced cast, which includes:

  • Tori Matsuzaka as Togashi
  • Shōta Sometani as Komiya
  • Kōki Uchiyama as Saizu
  • Kenjirō Tsuda as Kaidō

Production Details

100 Meters is being directed by Kenji Iwaisawa, known for his independent film ON-GAKU: Our Sound. The film is produced by Rock ‘n’ Roll Mountain, with Pony Canyon, TBS TV, and ASMIK Ace credited with production assistance. The screenplay is penned by Yasuyuki Mutō (Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway, Tokyo Revengers). Keisuke Kojima (Dororo, Monster) serves as character designer and chief animation director, while Keikankun Yamaguchi is the art director. Hiroaki Tsutsumi (Jujutsu Kaisen, Tokyo Revengers, Dr. Stone) is composing the music.

Story Synopsis

100 Meters tells the story of Togashi, a track star blessed with natural talent. From a young age, he effortlessly wins every 100-meter race. However, his life takes a turn when Komiya, a determined transfer student lacking Togashi’s innate abilities, enters the picture. As Togashi mentors Komiya, he inadvertently fuels Komiya’s desire to win, sparking a fierce rivalry between them. Years later, the two meet again as competitors on the track, revealing their true selves and motivations.

Themes and Motifs

The film delves into themes of competition, rivalry, personal growth, and the pursuit of athletic excellence. It explores how mentorship can evolve into rivalry, how running can be both a literal and symbolic journey, and how identity is forged through talent and struggle. 100 Meters is not just about who is faster, but why individuals run in the first place.

From Manga to Screen

100 Meters is adapted from Uoto’s manga series, Hyakuemu, which was serialized on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket website and app from November 2018 to August 2019. The manga was compiled into five tankōbon volumes. The film aims to capture the essence of the manga while adding its own unique visual and narrative elements.

What to Expect

With a talented cast and a compelling story, 100 Meters promises to be a must-watch anime film for sports enthusiasts and fans of coming-of-age stories. The film’s exploration of rivalry, personal growth, and the pursuit of excellence is sure to resonate with audiences. The film will premiere in Japan on September 19, 2025, and in North America in October 2025.
