The upcoming anime film adaptation of Uoto’s sports manga, 100 Meters (Japanese title: Hyakuemu), has unveiled ten additional cast members ahead of its Japanese premiere on September 19. These new additions further enrich the ensemble bringing the competitive world of track and field to life on screen. The film previously held its world premiere at Annecy on June 12 and is slated for North American theatrical release this October via GKIDS.
The newly announced voice actors and their roles include:
- Jun Kasama as Nigami, a teammate of protagonist Togashi.
- Rie Takahashi as Asakusa, a high school girl who recruits Togashi to the track team.
- Yuki Tanaka as Shiina, a supportive teammate.
- Atsumi Tanezaki as young Togashi during his elementary school years.
- Aoi Yūki as young Komiya during his elementary school years.
- Yūma Uchida as Kabanoki, a promising runner.
- Junya Enoki as Numano, a cheerful member of Komiya’s high school track team.
- Haruki Ishiya as Kyōden, Komiya’s high school team captain.
- Hiiro Ishibashi as Morikawa, an athlete who looks up to Togashi.
- Tomokazu Sugita as Onomichi.
These voice talents join the previously announced lead cast, which features Tori Matsuzaka as the naturally gifted runner Togashi and Shōta Sometani as Komiya, whose obsession with the 100-meter dash stems from meeting Togashi. Kōki Uchiyama and Kenjirō Tsuda were also previously announced as Saizu and Kaidō, respectively.
The Vision Behind the Race
Directed by Kenji Iwaisawa, known for ON-GAKU: Our Sound, 100 Meters is being animated by Rock ‘n’ Roll Mountain. The production credits include Pony Canyon, TBS TV, and ASMIK Ace. Yasuyuki Mutō, who worked on Tokyo Revengers, is handling the script, while Keisuke Kojima serves as character designer and chief animation director. Keikankun Yamaguchi is the art director, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi is composing the music for the film. Producers for the film include Yūsuke Terada, Yūki Katayama, and Akane Taketsugu.
The film adapts Uoto’s debut serialized manga, 100 Meters (Hyakuemu), which was published in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app from November 2018 to August 2019. The story delves into the intense world of track and field, focusing on the rivalry and shared passion between Togashi and Komiya as they strive for excellence in the 100-meter sprint—a race lasting less than ten seconds that demands absolute dedication.
