A captivating 60-second clip from the highly anticipated anime film 100 Meters (also known as Hyakuemu) has been released, offering audiences a glimpse into its stunning “long take” animation showcase. The footage, streamed by distributor Asmik Ace, highlights the film’s intricate animation style and is part of a remarkable 220-second continuous sequence within the movie. The film, which premiered in Japan on September 19, 2025, is set to be distributed in North American theaters by GKIDS in October 2025.
Unveiling the Long Take Animation
The recently released one-minute clip is notable for its detailed rotoscoped character animation and a fluid, moving camera accompanied by an animated background. This impressive segment represents the initial minute of a significantly longer, approximately 3-minute and 40-second, continuous shot from the film, reportedly comprising around 9,800 frames of animation. Such a technical feat in animation emphasizes the meticulous craftsmanship behind the production, offering a seamless and immersive viewing experience as characters Togashi, Komiya, and other runners approach the starting blocks. About the “100 Meters” Anime Film
Directed by Kenji Iwaisawa, known for his work on ON-GAKU: Our Sound, 100 Meters is an adaptation of Uoto’s sports manga. The animation production is handled by studio Rock ‘n’ Roll Mountain. The story centers on Togashi, a naturally gifted track athlete, and Komiya, a determined transfer student. Togashi, who effortlessly excels in 100-meter races from a young age, encounters Komiya in sixth grade. Komiya, though lacking technique, possesses immense determination, which Togashi helps to cultivate, inadvertently setting him on a path to become a formidable rival. Years later, the two reunite on the track as competitors, revealing their evolved selves. The film’s theme song, “Rashisa,” is performed by Official HiGE DANdism.
North American Release and Critical Acclaim
100 Meters held its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 12. Following its Japanese debut, GKIDS will bring the film to North American audiences in October 2025. Specific screenings are scheduled for October 12-14, with a special opening event in Los Angeles on October 10. The film will be available in Japanese with English subtitles and also with an English dub. The East Coast premiere is slated for October 8 in New York, with director Kenji Iwaisawa in attendance. The movie performed well in its opening weekend in Japan, ranking #8 and earning approximately 102,666,040 yen (around US$694,700) in its first three days.
