The New Prince of Tennis manga is indeed set to conclude within a year, as confirmed by its creator, Takeshi Konomi. This announcement was made on July 1, 2025, by Konomi on his social media to commemorate the 26th anniversary of the original The Prince of Tennis manga and the 16th year of its sequel, The New Prince of Tennis (also known as Shin Tennis no Ōji-sama).
The manga will be entering its final arc with its next chapter, scheduled for release on July 4th. While Konomi stated his plan to end the series within a year, it’s important to note that this is not a rigid deadline and could be subject to change.
The New Prince of Tennis manga began serialization in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine in March 2009. The original The Prince of Tennis manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1999 to 2008. The series follows middle school tennis player Ryoma Echizen as he battles rivals and advances through tournaments. The franchise has inspired numerous anime adaptations, including TV series, films, and OVAs, as well as live-action adaptations and stage musicals. The most recent anime adaptation, The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup Semifinal, premiered in October 2024.
Konomi’s health has been a factor in recent years, as he reported being in poor health in 2022 and using a wheelchair in February 2023, though he has since regained the ability to walk and attend events. In a separate but related development, The Prince of Tennis II: RisingBeat smartphone game announced it would end service on August 31, 2025.
Fans are encouraged by Konomi to continue reading until the very end of the manga.
