The full trailer and main visual for the fourth Sumikko Gurashi anime film, officially titled Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Sora no Ōkoku to Futari no Ko (Sumikko Gurashi The Movie: The Sky Kingdom and the Two Children), have been released, offering a first listen to Kaela Kimura’s newly composed theme song, “Kimi no Kasa” (Your Umbrella). The film is set to open in Japanese theaters on October 31.

“Kimi no Kasa” Takes Center Stage in New Trailer

The latest trailer provides an extensive preview of “Kimi no Kasa,” a song specifically written for the movie by Kaela Kimura, with music producer Tsutaya Yoshiyuki handling the composition and arrangement. Kimura shared her thoughts on the theme, stating, “Each of the characters in Sumikko Gurashi has their own little complexes and worries… But it is because they have friends by their side who accept them for who they are that they are able to move forward step by step.” She further expressed that “Kimi no Kasa” carries the message, “It’s okay to have weaknesses and doubts. With your friends together, you can overcome any feeling,” hoping it inspires listeners to cherish their authentic selves.

A New Adventure in the Sky Kingdom

Directed by Naomi Iwata at FANWORKS, the fourth installment transports the beloved Sumikko Gurashi characters to a fantastical “Sky Kingdom” located above the clouds. The plot centers on the prince of this Sky Kingdom, who descends to the Sumikko Gurashi’s town to address a severe water shortage. The trailer teases a grand adventure, showing the Sumikkogurashi collaborating with the prince, encountering various monsters in the Sky Kingdom, and even introducing a new character, “Ebifriedon”—a playful combination of Tonkatsu and Ebifried’s tail. The main visual for the film showcases characters like Tonkatsu and Fried Shrimp’s Tail, the Prince and the Moon Child, Shirokuma (polar bear), Penguin?, Neko (cat), and Tokage (lizard), all gathered in the ethereal Sky Kingdom.

The Expanding World of Sumikko Gurashi Films

The Sumikko Gurashi cinematic universe has captivated audiences since its debut. This upcoming film marks the fourth theatrical release in the popular franchise based on San-X’s endearing characters. The series has consistently drawn a significant following, accumulating over 3 million viewers across its previous three films.

Previous Sumikko Gurashi Film Titles

  • First Film: Sumikko Gurashi: The Pop-up Book and the Secret Child (2019).
  • Second Film: Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Aoi Tsukiyo no Mahō no Ko (The Magical Child of the Blue Moonlit Night) (2021).
  • Third Film: Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Tsugihagi Kōjō no Fushigi na Ko (The Mysterious Child of the Makeshift Factory) (2023).

The consistent success of the films underscores the enduring appeal of the shy and quirky Sumikko Gurashi characters and their charming, heartwarming stories. Fans eagerly await to join the gang on their latest airborne escapade this fall.
