The upcoming anime adaptation of Aki Shimizu’s manga, “The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-sensei: He Just Solves All the Mysteries,” has unveiled additional cast members and the artist for its ending theme song. The anime, a prequel to Natsuhiko Kyogoku’s “Hyakki Yakō” novel series, is set to premiere in April 2025.

New Cast Members Announced

Several new cast members have been announced, adding depth to the already intriguing roster of characters:

  • Ai Furihata as Atsuko Chuzenji: Details about the character are still emerging.
  • Ai Kayano as Chizuko Chuzenji: Details about the character are still emerging.
  • Shinnosuke Tachibana as Reijiro Enokizu: A handsome young man sporting an eyepatch, Enokizu shares a complex history with Chuzenji dating back to their student days.
  • Shuya Nishiji as Takumi Sekiguchi: A myxomycete researcher grappling with severe social anxiety. Nishiji commented on the endearing nature of the “troublesome” characters, brought to life by the cast’s performances.
  • Takanori Hoshino as Shutaro Kiba: Enokizu’s childhood friend and a local police officer. Hoshino describes Kiba as a dependable and warm-hearted character who will resonate with viewers.

These additions join the previously announced main cast:

  • Katsuyuki Konishi as Akihiko Chuzenji: The titular character, a language teacher with a knack for solving mysteries.
  • Kaori Maeda as Kanna Kusakabe: A high school student who seeks Chuzenji’s help with supernatural occurrences.

Ending Theme Song Performed by Sizuk

The ending theme song for the anime, titled “Kimi no Shiranai koto,” will be performed by the artist Sizuk. The song promises to add an emotional and atmospheric layer to the anime’s conclusion.

Story Overview

“The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-sensei” is set in Tokyo in 1948, in the aftermath of World War II. The story revolves around Kanna Kusakabe, a second-year high school student, who encounters Akihiko Chuzenji, her new language teacher. Mysterious supernatural events begin to plague Kanna’s life, leading her to seek the aid of the enigmatic Chuzenji-sensei in the library’s prep room. The anime promises a blend of school life, supernatural mysteries, and the dynamic between the unlikely duo of a teacher and a high school student.

Before Kyogokudo opened his used bookstore, strange things keep happening around Kanna. The story is about a high school supernatural mystery featuring the unlikely duo between a teacher and a high school girl.

Manga Origins

The anime is based on the manga series by Aki Shimizu, which began serialization in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine Edge in October 2019. It later moved to the Comic Days app in October 2023. The manga itself is a spin-off and prequel to Natsuhiko Kyogoku’s renowned “Hyakki Yakō” novel series.
