Fans of the anime series “Girls Band Cry” have reason to celebrate. A two-part compilation film project is officially on the horizon, promising an enhanced cinematic experience that revisits the emotional journey of the aspiring band, Togenashi Togeari.

Release Dates Announced

Mark your calendars! The first film, titled “Girls Band Cry: Seishun Kyosokyoku (Rhapsody of Youth)”, is slated to premiere on October 3, 2025. The second installment, “Girls Band Cry: Naa, Mirai. (Hey, Future.)”, will follow shortly after, hitting theaters on November 14, 2025. These theatrical releases will bring fans an enhanced cinematic experience.

What to Expect

These compilation films aren’t just a simple rehash of the original anime. Expect a refined and enhanced viewing experience, chronicling the band’s journey with stunning high-quality animation. While specific details about new content or altered scenes remain scarce, the promise of a cinematic presentation alone is enough to excite fans.

A Recap of “Girls Band Cry”

For those unfamiliar, “Girls Band Cry” tells the story of Nina Iseri, a high school dropout who moves to Tokyo seeking a fresh start. There, she encounters Momoka Kawaragi, her favorite guitarist, and together they form a band with three other girls. The series explores their individual struggles and their shared passion for music as they strive to achieve their dreams.

The anime series aired in Japan for 13 episodes from April 6, 2024, to June 29, 2024.

Where to Watch the Anime

  • Streaming: Crunchyroll streamed the series worldwide outside of East Asia starting November 6, 2024. CATCHPLAY+ streamed the anime in Indonesia with Indonesian and English subtitles.
  • Digital Release: The anime was also released digitally on Fandango at Home, Microsoft Store, Amazon Prime Video, and Hoopla.

Meet Togenashi Togeari

Togenashi Togeari isn’t just an anime band; they’re a real musical group formed in February 2023 specifically for “Girls Band Cry”. The band operates under the concept of being “A band that can win in just 5 seconds.” The members are voice actors who are also talented musicians, selected through the “Girl’s Rock Audition” hosted by agehasprings, Universal Music, and Toei Animation.

Band Members

  • Rina: Vocals (as Nina Iseri)
  • Yuri: Guitar (as Momoka Kawaragi)
  • Mirei: Drums (as Subaru Awa)
  • Nagito: Keyboards (as Tomo Ebizuka)
  • Syuri: Bass (as Rupa)

Live Performances and Budokan Dream

Togenashi Togeari has been actively performing live, captivating audiences with their unique blend of voice acting and musical talent. In a momentous announcement during their 5th ONE-MAN LIVE “Meidou no Toki” on February 7, 2025, the band revealed their first-ever concert at the legendary Nippon Budokan on September 23, 2025. This fulfills a longtime fan wish.

Health Concerns

It was announced in July of last year that cast members Mirei and Natsu are going on a temporary hiatus due to health reasons, but the remaining three main cast members — Rina, Yuri, and Syuri — will continue performing.

The Creative Team

The “Girls Band Cry” anime boasts a talented team of creators:

  • Director: Kazuo Sakai (Love Live! Sunshine!!)
  • Character Designer: Nari Teshima (VTuber Hoshimachi Suisei’s character designer)
  • CG Director: Jaehoon Jung
  • Series Screenwriter: Jukki Hanada (The Dangers in My Heart, Love Live! Superstar!!)
  • Music Composer: Kenji Tamai (agehasprings)
  • Music Accompaniment: Yūsuke Tanaka (agehasprings)
  • Animation Production: Toei Animation

Where Did “Girls Band Cry” Come From?

The “Girls Band Cry” anime premiered on April 5, 2024, and aired for 13 episodes. Toei Animation released the anime digitally in English in North America on August 13, 2024. Crunchyroll began streaming the series on November 6, 2024.

What’s the Story?

Toei Animation describes the anime:

The main character drops out of high school in her second year and aims at entering a university while working alone in Tokyo. A girl is betrayed by her friends and doesn’t know what to do. Another girl is abandoned by her parents and tries to survive in the city by doing part-time jobs. This world lets us down all the time. Nothing goes as planned. But we want something that we can continue to like. We believe there’s a place where we belong. That’s why we sing.
