Mosae Nohara’s grand fantasy adventure, “Abel and the Demon Lord” (Abel to Makai no Ō), is set to conclude on March 18th, according to the March issue of Square Enix’s Monthly G Fantasy magazine. The manga, which follows the story of a prince and his unlikely connection with a demon, launched in February 2024 and will end with the magazine’s next issue.

A Prince, a Demon, and a Kingdom in Turmoil

“Abel and the Demon Lord” centers around Abel, the second prince of a kingdom. Abel is depicted as a kind-hearted individual, beloved by the people he serves. However, his elder brother, Strain, the first prince, harbors animosity towards him and subjects him to harsh treatment.

One fateful day, a demon appears before Abel, offering to grant his deepest desires in exchange for a contract. Despite initially declining, Abel finds himself entangled with the demon following a significant event that changes the course of his life.

The Genesis of “Abel and the Demon Lord”

Mosae Nohara introduced “Abel and the Demon Lord” to the readers of Monthly G Fantasy in February 2024. Square Enix published the first compiled book volume of the manga on October 25th.

Mosae Nohara’s Diverse Portfolio

Mosae Nohara is a manga artist known for a variety of works. Prior to “Abel and the Demon Lord,” Nohara created the manga adaptation of the new BEM anime, which was serialized on Hakusensha’s Manga Park website and app beginning in July 2019. The first compiled book volume of this adaptation was released in August 2019, followed by the third and final volume in September 2020.

Furthermore, Yen Press is releasing Nohara’s “From the Red Fog” manga in English. This series concluded in July 2022. “From the Red Fog” is a horror manga set in 19th century England, revolving around a young boy named Ruwanda and his toxic relationship with his mother.

Understanding the Narrative of “Abel and the Demon Lord”

While details regarding the specific nature of the “major incident” that forces Abel to become involved with the demon are scarce, the initial premise suggests a narrative exploring themes of:

  • Brotherly conflict: The strained relationship between Abel and Strain likely plays a crucial role in the story, potentially influencing Abel’s decisions and the kingdom’s fate.
  • Temptation and choice: The demon’s offer presents Abel with a moral dilemma, forcing him to weigh the potential benefits of the contract against its unknown consequences.
  • The nature of good and evil: The dynamic between the kind-hearted prince and the demon raises questions about morality and the blurred lines between good and evil.

Speculations on the Ending

With the manga’s conclusion imminent, fans are left to speculate on how Abel’s story will resolve. Key questions include:

  • Will Abel ultimately succumb to the demon’s temptation and forge a contract?
  • How will Abel resolve the conflict with his brother, Strain?
  • Will Abel’s actions lead to the salvation or destruction of his kingdom?
