The fifth season of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, also known as DanMachi V, has reached its conclusion, wrapping up the Freya arc with a dramatic finale. The final episode, titled “First Love: Syr,” aired on March 5, 2025, and focused on the resolution of the War Game and Freya’s obsession with Bell Cranel.

War Game’s End: Bell Saves Syr and Freya

In the climactic episode 15, Bell Cranel confronts Ottar, who is nearly indestructible in his Beast Mode. Through Hedin Selland’s strategy and the combined efforts of the Allied Army, Bell is able to defeat the seemingly unbeatable King and save Freya, while also protecting her alter ego, Syr. Bell’s actions ultimately lead to Freya relinquishing her status as a Goddess, choosing to live among mortals as the free-spirited Syr she always wanted to be.

The episode culminates in Bell severing Freya’s connection to her divinity, ending the War Game and freeing her from her obsession with him. This allows Freya to pursue her desired ordinary life, free from the burdens of her godly responsibilities.

The Aftermath: A Goddess’s Choice

The finale explores the consequences of Freya’s actions and the impact on those around her. Despite the chaos she caused, Freya isn’t punished severely; instead, she chooses to live as Syr, supported by Ryu and Anya. This outcome has been met with mixed reactions from fans, with some feeling that Freya got off too easily considering her actions, including brainwashing the entire city of Orario.

Hedin’s Role and the Liberation of Freya

A key element in the finale is Hedin’s plan to liberate Freya from being a Goddess. He recognizes Freya’s happiness as Syr and seeks to preserve her smile. Although Ottar initially doubts Hedin’s loyalty, Hedin’s actions ultimately contribute to Freya’s decision to relinquish her godhood.

Bell’s Growth and the Power of Friendship

The finale emphasizes Bell’s growth throughout the season. He demonstrates a deeper understanding of the impact his choices have on others, particularly in his relationships. The episode also highlights the importance of friendship, as the combined efforts of Bell’s allies are crucial in saving Freya. Ryu and Anya, who only ever saw her as Syr, are instrumental in helping Freya choose a normal life.

Production and Streaming

DanMachi is produced by J.C. Staff and directed by Hideki Tachibana. The series is available for streaming on HIDIVE, with English subtitles available shortly after the Japanese broadcast. English dubs are typically released a few weeks later.

Production Delays

The final episodes of DanMachi V experienced delays due to production issues, causing frustration among fans. However, the season ultimately returned with its final episodes in February and March 2025.

What’s Next for DanMachi?

With the conclusion of the Freya arc, the future of the DanMachi anime remains uncertain. There are currently only two more volumes of the light novel series to be adapted (Volumes 19 and 20). However, the author has revealed that Volume 21 will begin the final arc.

Possible Adaptations

Given the limited source material, there are several possibilities for future adaptations:

  • Movie or Movie Series: The School District arc could be adapted into a movie or a series of movies, potentially combined with the final arc.
  • Season 6 and 7: The production team could adapt Volumes 19 and 20 into a sixth season, followed by a seventh season for the final arc.
  • Waiting for More Content: The production team might wait for more volumes of the light novel to be released before greenlighting another season.

Regardless of the format, fans are eagerly anticipating the continuation of Bell Cranel’s adventures in Orario.
