Story and Setting of Private Tutor to the Duke’s Daughter
“Private Tutor to the Duke’s Daughter” (公女殿下の家庭教師, Kōjo Denka no Kateikyōshi) is a Japanese light novel series by Riku Nanano. The story centers around Allen, a promising young sorcerer who fails his royal court exam and finds himself tutoring Tina Howard, the Duke’s daughter, who is inexplicably unable to use magic. Allen’s unconventional teaching methods might be the key to unlocking Tina’s magical potential.
Light Novel and Manga Origins
The series originated on the Kakuyomu website in October 2017. In December 2018, Fujimi Shobo began publishing the series in print with illustrations by Cura. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Tamura Mutō, started serialization on the Shōnen Ace Plus website in September 2019. As of July 2024, the light novels have 850,000 copies in circulation across 16 volumes. J-Novel Club publishes the English version of both the light novels and the manga. The light novel series has reached its 18th volume as of January 18, 2025.
