Episode 10 of Übel Blatt, titled “Counterattack,” sees Köinzell’s battle against Batterygrave Barestar ignite a rebellion within the city of Jullas-Abllas. As the city rises up, Lady Elsaria questions her allegiance to the Seven Heroes, and a devastating magical weapon changes the course of the battle.

Jullas-Abllas Takes Up Arms Against Batterygrave

Inspired by Köinzell’s resolve against Batterygrave Barestar and his forces, the citizens of Jullas-Abllas finally decide to fight back against the oppressive empire. This marks a critical turning point in the series, as the people choose resistance over submission. A vigilante corps, led by a former stowaway turned captain, steps up to defend their home.

Elsaria’s Defining Decision

Elsaria, the elector’s daughter, grapples with her loyalties throughout the series. In “Counterattack,” she makes a defining decision to publicly side with Ulysus Obless against her own father and the empire. This act of defiance is a pivotal moment, both politically and emotionally, symbolizing a shift in the rebellion’s momentum.

Batterygrave’s Trump Card: A Floating Castle

The battle takes a dramatic turn when Batterygrave Barestar reveals his ultimate weapon: a floating castle armed with magical artillery. This goes against the traditional role of a battery grave, who is meant to protect the empire’s defensive batteries, not wield them for destruction.

Dragon’s Maw: The Wischtechian Magic Artillery

The floating castle unleashes devastating attacks upon the city with its Wischtechian magic artillery known as Dragon’s Maw. The indiscriminate attacks threaten both the city and Barestar’s own troops, revealing his megalomania and disregard for collateral damage.

Aht’s Resurrection and New Powers

During the fighting, Köinzell saves a young woman and her child from Barestar’s forces, further inspiring Lady Elsaria to question the Seven Heroes. Aht is resurrected by Köinzell, with her hair color changing to mirror his. She gains access to moon powers similar to his. As Aht and Köinzell fight together, they grow closer.

Unlikely Alliances and Shifting Loyalties

The dire circumstances force various factions to decide whether to ally with Köinzell, whom they previously hunted, to protect the city. Even Elaria, who initially struggled with her decision, eventually chooses to fight alongside him against the invading forces. This temporary alliance demonstrates how shared threats can forge unexpected partnerships.

The Hero-Killer’s Intervention

As the situation worsens, Köinzell reveals himself as the hero-killing rebel to draw attention away from the civilians. His intervention proves effective, as many soldiers hesitate to engage him in combat, and his presence begins to turn the tide of battle.

The Aftermath and the Road Ahead

The episode concludes with Köinzell and his allies preparing to infiltrate the floating castle, setting the stage for an exciting confrontation in the next episode. The destruction caused by Bearstar’s attacks creates confusion and panic among his own forces, who find themselves caught between the hero-killing rebel and their leader’s indiscriminate assault.
