The popular anime series “Let This Grieving Soul Retire!” is set to make its highly anticipated return. A teaser promotional video has been released, announcing that Season 2 will debut in October 2025. Fans of the series have eagerly awaited this news since the conclusion of the first season, which aired from October to December 2024.

Production Details

The first season of “Let This Grieving Soul Retire!” was directed by Masahiro Takata at studio Zero-G. Takata, known for his work on “High-Rise Invasion” and “The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch,” also served as the sound director. Hideki Shirane, who has worked on series such as “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” and “Date A Live,” was in charge of the series scripts. Character designs were handled by Yūsuke Isouchi and Shingo Fujisaki, and the music was composed by Ryōhei Sataka. It is expected that the same team will return for season 2.

Storyline

“Let This Grieving Soul Retire!” is a comedic fantasy series adapted from the light novel series “Woe Is the Weakling Who Leads the Strongest Party” by Tsukikage, with illustrations by Chyko. The story revolves around Krai Andrey, a treasure hunter who dreams of retiring early but is constantly pulled back into action by his friends’ high expectations.

Crunchyroll streamed the first season and has confirmed they will also stream the second season, making it easily accessible for international audiences.

The light novel series “Let This Grieving Soul Retire! Woe Is the Weakling Who Leads the Strongest Party” began as a web novel on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō in January 2018. It was later acquired by Micro Magazine, who began publishing it under their GC Novels imprint in August 2018.

Manga Adaptation

A manga adaptation, illustrated by Rai Hebino, began serialization on Kadokawa’s ComicWalker manga website on April 27, 2019. Yen Press is publishing the manga in English.

Story Synopsis

The series is set in the golden age of treasure hunters, where adventurers seek wealth, fame, and glory in dangerous treasure vaults. Krai and his childhood friends vow to become the greatest treasure hunters, but Krai realizes he is not suited for the job. Despite his desire to retire, he is constantly drawn back into adventure by his friends.

Treasure Hunters and Their World

The anime is set during a golden age for treasure hunters. Adventurers are driven by the pursuit of wealth, fame, power and glory, risking their lives in treasure vaults. Krai and his friends swear to become the greatest treasure hunters. He quickly realizes that he is not cut out for this job.

Krai’s Dilemma

Krai realizes that treasure hunting is not for him. The expectations of those around him continue to mount, along with Krai’s fear for his life. While his childhood friends climb closer toward their dream, he wishes to retire.

The Grieving Souls

The clan is composed of elite parties and rivals. Founded by Krai Andrey and his five childhood friends, and registered by Kaina Noss in Explorers Association, they are also known as ‘Grievers’. They are considered the strongest party, with all members having titular monikers in their profiles. Other parties include: Ark Rodin’s party, considered the second strongest, and Sven Anger’s party, considered the third strongest. Lapis Fulgor leads a party composed of Noble Spirits residing in the human continent.
