The latest episode of Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective, titled “Drowning in a Dry Room (Part 1),” has landed, plunging viewers into a perplexing new mystery. Dr. Takao Ameku, the brilliant but eccentric director of investigative pathology, is back on the case, ready to unravel the shocking truth behind an impossible crime. However, the episode’s release was not without its own drama, as a prior delay left fans eagerly awaiting its arrival.

Episode 10 Faces Delay, But Mystery Awaits

Initially slated for release on March 12, 2025, episode 10 was pushed back due to a special program. The official announcement of the delay, made on March 5, 2025, via the anime’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, cited a special program scheduled for broadcast as the reason. Fans finally got to see the episode on March 19, 2025.

“Drowning in a Dry Room (Part 1)”: A Synopsis

In “Drowning in a Dry Room (Part 1),” Takanashi is being transferred to a different hospital, a move that is spurred by Takanashi having to leave the diagnostic service to replace a colleague suspected of murder. The episode presents a perplexing scenario: a person found drowned, but in a completely dry room.

Animation Quality Under Scrutiny

Episode 10 has garnered attention, but not all of it positive. Several reviews and online discussions have pointed out noticeable issues with the animation quality. Critics highlighted inconsistencies in character designs, such as misaligned eyes and poorly drawn hands, as well as choppy movements. Some viewers described the visuals as “rushed” and the overall animation as “rough.” However, some viewers have forgiven the animation issues due to the storyline.

Dr. Ameku: A Medical Sherlock Holmes

The anime follows Dr. Takao Ameku, the head of the Department of Investigative Pathology at Tenikai General Hospital. She is in charge of diagnosing difficult cases that other doctors can’t solve. Dr. Ameku, however, has a knack for solving mysteries, often to the level of a police detective.

The Cast of Characters

  • Takao Ameku: Voiced by Ayane Sakura, Takao is the brilliant but eccentric director of the Department of Investigative Pathology. She lives in a brick house on the hospital’s rooftop, which also serves as her office.

  • Yu Takanashi: Voiced by Kensho Ono, Yu is Ameku’s assistant, whom she nicknames “Kotori.”

  • Kimiyasu Sakurai: A homicide detective who secretly shares information with Ameku and Yu.

  • Ryūya Naruse: A senior detective who, unlike his partner Ryūya, is more receptive to Ameku’s assistance.

A Medical Mystery Novel Series

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective is based on a Japanese medical mystery novel series written by Mikito Chinen and illustrated by Noizi Ito. Shinchosha has published thirteen volumes from September 2014 to August 2022 under their Shincho Bunko nex imprint. The novels revolve around a doctor who solves murders and medical mysteries at a general hospital’s department of diagnosis.
