The upcoming original anime series, Maebashi Witches, has revealed three new guest cast members, adding to the already enchanting ensemble. The announcement was made during the anime’s stage presentation at AnimeJapan 2025 on Saturday, March 22, 2025, heightening anticipation for the series’ premiere on April 6, 2025.

“Maebashi Witches”: A Magical Coming-of-Age Story

Maebashi Witches is an original anime produced by Sunrise, set in Maebashi City in Gunma Prefecture. The story revolves around five high school girls who are scouted by a mysterious frog named Keroppe to become witches. Yuina Akagi, a first-year high school student living an ordinary life, finds her world transformed when Keroppe recruits her and four other girls. They discover a hidden closet in their school that leads to a magical flower shop, where they sing, dance, and grant people’s wishes.

New Cast Members Revealed

The newly announced guest cast members include:

  • Yū Serizawa as Eiko Zen, the first customer to visit Dreamy Dreamy Flower. Eiko is concerned about her future career.
  • Nao Tōyama as Rinko Mitsuba, a shop visitor from Tokyo who returns to Maebashi for a class reunion.
  • Akari Kitō as Yua Hosaka, a university student from Maebashi who appears to be related to Mai.

These guest characters will visit the flower shop “Dreamy Dreamy Flower (tentative title)” where the apprentice witches train.

The Core Coven: Main Cast and Characters

The anime also features a stellar main cast:

  • Sakura Kasuga as Yuina Akagi, a cheerful high school freshman who loves cameras and taking “emotional” photos.
  • Hinano Sakikawa as Azu Niisato, a girl who loves fashion and cosmetics.
  • Rena Motomura as Kyoka Kitahara, a girl from a wealthy family who attends the top high school in the prefecture.
  • Haruka Minami as Choco Mitsumata, a cheerful mood maker girl.
  • Honami Momose as Mai Kamiizumi, a realist girl who is conscious of what others think about her.
  • Tomokazu Sugita as Keroppe, the mysterious familiar spirit who scouts the five girls to become apprentice witches.

Production Team & Release Details

Maebashi Witches is directed by Junichi Yamamoto at Bandai Namco Filmworks and PROJECT MBW, with Erika Yoshida handling the series scripts. Yu Inami is credited with the original character designs, while Nozomi Tachibana is designing the characters for animation. Yoshiki Imazu designs the Witchverse, and Yuri Habuka is composing the music.

The anime will premiere on April 6, 2025, on Tokyo MX at 10:30 p.m. JST, followed by BS11 at 12:30 a.m. JST on April 7. It will also air on Gunma TV on April 11 at 11:30 p.m. JST.

Story and Setting

The anime is set in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, and follows Yuina Akagi, a high school freshman, who leads an ordinary life. One day, she meets Keroppe, a mysterious frog, who recruits her and four other girls as the “Maebashi Witches.” A closet in their school opens into a magical flower shop. In this space, they sing, dance, and fulfill people’s wishes.

Maebashi Witches promises a blend of fantasy, friendship, and magical realism, with a unique setting inspired by a real city in Japan. The anime’s themes of self-discovery and teamwork are expected to resonate with fans of magical girl series.
