Get ready for a fresh take on the zombie apocalypse! A new TV anime, “In a World Full of Zombies, I’m the Only One Who Doesn’t Get Attacked,” is slated to premiere in 2026, promising a unique twist on the genre. Here’s everything we know so far about this upcoming series that’s generating buzz among anime fans.

What’s the Story?

The anime is adapted from the light novel series “Zombie no Afureta Sekai de Ore Dake ga Osowarenai” written by Rokuro Uraji and illustrated by Saburo. The story centers around Yusuke Takemura, a former salaryman with a rather self-centered personality. In a world overrun by zombies, Takemura discovers he’s somehow immune to their attacks after surviving a zombie bite.

Instead of becoming a zombie-slaying hero, Takemura uses his immunity to act on his own desires in the crumbling ruins of civilization. The official Anime News Network describes it as a “zombie panic action” story where Takemura’s behavior defies typical protagonist tropes, making it a hot topic among readers.

Where Did It Come From?

Rokuro Uraji originally launched the story on the R18 version of the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in January 2013, concluding it in 2017. Frontier Works published three volumes of the series with illustrations by Saburō between 2016 and 2017. The series also has a manga adaptation illustrated by Chihiro Masuda, which began in June 2021. Frontier Works is set to release the fourth manga volume soon, with an English version available on MangaPlaza.

Production Details

The anime adaptation was first announced in February of last year, with the official announcement of its 2026 premiere on April 2nd, 2025. It will be broadcast on the Japanese television network AT-X. As of now, further details regarding the production, such as the cast and staff, are yet to be confirmed, so stay tuned for updates!

What to Expect

  • Unique Protagonist: Takemura’s immunity to zombie attacks sets him apart from typical zombie apocalypse protagonists. His self-serving actions and unconventional behavior promise a fresh and potentially comedic perspective on the genre.
  • Zombie Panic Action: Expect a thrilling blend of zombie horror and action, with Takemura navigating the dangers of the apocalypse while pursuing his own agenda.
  • Subversive Themes: The series explores themes of survival, desire, and the nature of humanity in the face of societal collapse, offering a thought-provoking take on the zombie genre.

Zombie Anime to Tide You Over

If you’re eager to dive into the world of zombie anime while waiting for “In a World Full of Zombies, I’m the Only One Who Doesn’t Get Attacked,” here are a few recommendations:

  • Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead: This series follows Akira, a young man who finds joy in the zombie apocalypse because it frees him from his corporate job. It’s a fun and upbeat take on the genre.
  • High School of the Dead: Known for its over-the-top action and fan service, “High School of the Dead” offers a thrilling and visually stimulating zombie apocalypse experience.
  • Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: Set in a steampunk world, this anime features heavily armored trains and unique zombies called “Kabane.” It’s praised for its action and animation.
  • Zombie Land Saga: A group of resurrected idols must save Saga Prefecture from obscurity in this comedic and heartwarming zombie anime.

The Future of Zombie Anime

“In a World Full of Zombies, I’m the Only One Who Doesn’t Get Attacked” is poised to offer a refreshing and unconventional take on the zombie genre. With its unique protagonist and subversive themes, this anime has the potential to become a standout series in 2026. Keep an eye out for more updates as the premiere date approaches!.
