The Tokyo-based Shinsei Galverse NFT project is set to launch its highly anticipated anime this summer. Promising a fresh take on anime with its roots in the Web3 space, the project has also revealed the talented team behind the production.
What is Shinsei Galverse?
Shinsei Galverse began as an NFT project featuring 8,888 unique “Gal” characters. These characters are envisioned as fragments of a holy planet, scattered across space and time with a mission to bring peace. The NFT collection gained significant traction, becoming Japan’s first major Web3 success and topping OpenSea’s NFT rankings shortly after its release in April 2022.
The project reimagines classic anime tropes, centering on “badass Gals” and blending nostalgia with innovative concepts. The team’s ultimate goal is to develop Galverse into an iconic IP, with the anime as a key component.

Ayaka Ohira’s Vision
Ayaka Ohira, the founder of Shinsei Galverse, brings a wealth of experience to the project. She previously worked on traditional cel-animated series under the guidance of Yōji Kuri and Manabu Ōhashi. Before Galverse, Ohira directed music videos for prominent artists such as m-flo, JP THE WAVY, and CHAI. Ohira and Emi Kusano always dreamed of making a classic anime together, inspired by the classic era they love but with a firm focus on badass women.
A New Kind of Anime
Shinsei Galverse aims to bridge the gap between the traditional anime world and the digital realm of NFTs. The project embraces community involvement, with opportunities for fans to contribute to the anime’s development. This approach is a departure from the often strict copyright environment of the Japanese animation industry.
Shinsei Galverse’s Origins in the NFT Space
The Shinsei Galverse project emerged from the Web3 space, with the initial NFT launch serving as a foundation for the larger creative vision.
