The upcoming anime adaptation of Masakuni Igarashi’s comedy mystery manga, “Detectives These Days Are Crazy!,” is generating buzz with its latest character trailer, highlighting the energetic and quirky Mashiro. Voiced by Kana Hanazawa, Mashiro is a beautiful high school student who becomes the assistant to a washed-up detective, promising a series filled with bizarre antics and heartwarming moments. The anime is scheduled to premiere in July 2025 in Japan.

Meet Mashiro: Energy and Eccentricity Collide

The character trailer introduces Mashiro as a vibrant and somewhat eccentric high school student. Her character design features expressive facial features and a dynamic physicality, hinting at the comedic energy she brings to the series. Kana Hanazawa, known for her roles in “Blue Exorcist” and other popular anime, lends her voice to Mashiro, further amplifying the character’s appeal.

Mashiro’s personality is a stark contrast to her partner, the outdated detective Keiichiro Nagumo. This contrast is central to the series’ premise, as Mashiro’s modern sensibilities clash with Nagumo’s old-fashioned ways, creating a unique and humorous dynamic.

The Plot Thickens: A Detective Duo for the Ages

“Detectives These Days Are Crazy!” follows the unlikely partnership between Keiichiro Nagumo and Mashiro. Nagumo, once a brilliant detective, has fallen behind the times, struggling to adapt to modern technology and crime-solving techniques. Mashiro’s sudden appearance throws his life into chaos, as she insists on becoming his assistant and helping him navigate the complexities of the modern world.

The series explores the generational gap between the two protagonists, highlighting the challenges and comedic moments that arise from their differing perspectives. As they work together to solve cases, they learn from each other, forming a bond that transcends their initial differences.

Production Details: Staff, Studio, and More

The anime adaptation is being produced by LIDENFILMS, with Rion Kujo directing. Rintaro Ikeda is in charge of series composition, while Isoroku Koga is handling character design and serving as chief animation director. Tomoki Kikuya is composing the music, adding another layer of depth to the series.

The opening theme song, “Suffer,” is performed by Taiiku Okazaki. The voice cast includes Junichi Suwabe as Keiichiro Nagumo, alongside Kana Hanazawa as Mashiro. Other cast members include Tomohiro Yamaguchi, Aya Hirano, and Tomokazu Sugita.

Manga Origins: From Page to Screen

“Detectives These Days Are Crazy!” began as a manga series written and illustrated by Masakuni Igarashi. It has been serialized in ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Maoh magazine since April 2016, with 15 volumes released as of August 2024. One Peace Books has licensed the manga in English, bringing the series to a wider audience.

The manga’s plot revolves around Keiichiro Nagumo, a once-celebrated detective who has become obsolete in the modern era. His life takes an unexpected turn when Mashiro, a high school girl, appears and offers to be his assistant. Together, they navigate the challenges of solving crimes in a world that has drastically changed since Nagumo’s prime.

Additional Cast Members

The anime adaptation has revealed additional cast members, including Kengo Kawanishi as Taro Nezu, Fairouz Ai as Azuha Hoshino, Misaki Watada as Fuu-chan, Yasuyuki Kase as Soya Mimasaka, and Hajime Iijima as Coach. These characters will likely play supporting roles in the series, adding depth and complexity to the storyline.

Anticipation Builds: What to Expect

With its blend of comedy, mystery, and heartwarming character interactions, “Detectives These Days Are Crazy!” is poised to be a standout anime of the Summer 2025 season. The character trailer for Mashiro offers a glimpse into the series’ unique charm, leaving fans eager to see more. As July 2025 approaches, anticipation continues to build for this exciting new anime.
