The upcoming anime adaptation of Tarō Yuri’s horror-comedy manga, “Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary” (Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai), has just released its first promotional video, unveiling the main cast and staff behind the series. This spine-chilling yet heartwarming tale is set to premiere, though a specific release date is yet to be confirmed.
A Glimpse into Kindergarten Horror
“Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary” centers around Kaya-chan, a notorious troublemaker in her kindergarten. Unbeknownst to the adults around her, Kaya possesses a secret ability: she can see and vanquish evil spirits with a single punch! When Chie-sensei is assigned to supervise Kaya, she discovers this hidden power and the pair embark on a series of supernatural adventures.
Seven Seas Entertainment, which has licensed the manga in English, describes the story as follows: “Are you braver than a kindergartner? Manga Origins
The original “Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary” manga is written and illustrated by Tarō Yuri. It began serialization on Shinchosha’s Kurage Bunch manga website in April 2022. As of November 2024, the series has been collected into six tankōbon volumes. Volume 7 is scheduled for release on June 9, 2025. Seven Seas Entertainment will begin publishing the English translation of the manga in April 2025.
