The Haigakura anime, adapted from Shinobu Takayama’s manga, is set to make a fresh start, returning to Japanese screens on July 3, 2025, and starting again from episode one. After going on hiatus in November 2024 to ensure the quality of the series, the production team is ready to deliver new episodes, with the first new episode (episode eight) scheduled to air on August 21, 2025.

A Summer Restart for Haigakura

The anime’s official website made the announcement, revealing the new broadcast and streaming schedules and reaffirming the commitment to maintaining the quality of the series. Fans can look forward to re-experiencing the initial episodes and then diving into the continuation of the story.

Where to Watch

Haigakura is available for streaming on various platforms, including:

  • Amazon Prime Video
  • Tubi
  • It’s Anime! YouTube channel (in the US and Canada)
  • Anime Onegai (in selected territories)
  • Muse Asia (in Southeast Asia)

Production Details

Haigakura is directed by Junichi Yamamoto (known for Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion) at studio TYPHOON GRAPHICS. The series composition is handled by Yu Murai, with character designs by Masaki Sato (Record of Ragnarok) and music by Yuki Kurihara (Blue Orchestra).

What is Haigakura About?

Haigakura is an action-fantasy series centered around:

  • Ichiyo: A kashi (song officer) who uses songs and dances to confine evil gods and maintain stability in the world.
  • Tenko: A subordinate god who accompanies Ichiyo on his mission.

The story follows Ichiyo, who, despite being a talented dancer, struggles with singing. He is tasked with recovering the Four Perils, malevolent gods who have escaped and threaten the balance of the world. His journey takes him to modern-day Japan, where he must confront not only the missing gods but also secrets from his own past.

The Premise

The world of Haigakura is on the brink of collapse after the Four Perils break free from their seals, leading to chaos and famine. Ichiyo and Tenko embark on a quest to find these gods and restore harmony, facing numerous challenges and uncovering a deeper conspiracy along the way.

Why the Hiatus?

The Haigakura anime went on hiatus after the broadcast of the seventh episode in November 2024. The production team cited the need for more time to maintain the series’ quality as the primary reason for the delay. This decision aimed to ensure that the remaining episodes would meet the expectations of fans and fully capture the charm of Shinobu Takayama’s original manga.

Message from the Staff

In a statement released in November 2024, the anime staff apologized for the inconvenience caused by the postponement. They emphasized their commitment to delivering a high-quality product and expressed gratitude for the continued support of viewers, the original author, and all cooperating artists and companies.

Manga Origins

Haigakura began as a manga series written and illustrated by Shinobu Takayama. It was initially serialized in Ichijinsha’s Comic Zero Sum WARD magazine from January 2008 to May 2015. When the magazine ceased publication, the manga moved to the Zero-Sum Online website in September 2015, where it continues to be serialized. As of October 2024, the series has been compiled into seventeen tankōbon volumes.

Popularity

The Haigakura manga has garnered a significant following over the years, selling over one million copies. Its blend of action, fantasy, and bishonen-centric themes has drawn comparisons to other popular series from the early 2000s, contributing to its cult status among fans of the shojo genre.

Music

The anime features an opening theme song, “Chaser,” performed by MADKID, and an ending theme song, “Phoenix,” performed by Hikaru Makishima.

Episodes

The anime series premiered on October 7, 2024, and broadcasted seven episodes before its hiatus. The titles of the initial episodes are:

  • Episode 1 – The Kagura Dance

With the restart of the series on July 3, viewers will have the opportunity to revisit these episodes before the premiere of the highly anticipated eighth episode on August 21.

A Second Chance

The decision to restart the Haigakura anime from the first episode reflects the production team’s dedication to delivering the best possible experience for viewers. By ensuring the quality of each episode and addressing any production challenges, they aim to honor the legacy of the original manga and captivate audiences with the enchanting world of Ichiyo and Tenko.
