The upcoming second season of the wildly popular anime series Dan Da Dan is generating even more excitement with the reveal of its ending theme song, “Doukashiteru” (Something’s Wrong with Them), performed by the talented artist WurtS. A new commercial has been released, previewing the catchy and emotive track, adding another layer of anticipation for the season premiere.

Anime’s Return: What to Expect

Dan Da Dan season 2 is set to premiere on July 3, 2025, promising to continue the unique blend of sci-fi, horror, and romantic comedy that captivated audiences in its first season. Fans can expect to stream the new episodes on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu, with weekly releases every Thursday.

If you can’t wait until July, the first three episodes of season 2 are being shown in theaters as Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye. The theatrical release began in late May in Asia and early June in North America and Europe.

A Sneak Peek: New Trailers and Theme Songs

Two new trailers have been released to whet fans’ appetites for the upcoming season.

  • “Friendship & Love” Trailer: This trailer offers a glimpse into the deepening relationship between the main characters, Momo and Okarun, showcasing their everyday high school moments alongside their friends Aira and Jiji. It also previews WurtS’s ending theme, “Doukashiteru,” which captures the characters’ complicated and longing feelings.
  • “Occult & Battle” Trailer: For those craving action, this trailer delivers with intense scenes set to the opening theme song “Kakumei Dōchū” (On the Way) by AiNA THE END. The trailer highlights the battles and supernatural elements that are central to the series.

WurtS’ Perspective

WurtS shared their enthusiasm for being part of the Dan Da Dan project:

“I’m WurtS, and I’m performing the ending theme for the Dan Da Dan anime. As a huge fan of both the manga and the anime, I’m truly honored to be part of this project. In this crazy world where various life forms suddenly appear, I wanted to capture the characters’ complicated feelings—awkward but full of longing. We’ve packed all that excitement and heart-throbbing emotion into this wonderful song. Thank you so much, and I hope you enjoy it.”

What Dan Da Dan Is All About

Dan Da Dan follows the story of Momo Ayase, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, and Ken Takakura, nicknamed Okarun, an occult enthusiast. The two have conflicting beliefs: Momo believes in ghosts but not aliens, while Okarun believes in aliens but not ghosts.

Their differing views lead them to make a bet, each visiting locations associated with the supernatural phenomena they believe in. Momo goes to an abandoned hospital known for UFO sightings, while Okarun visits a haunted tunnel. They encounter paranormal activities that defy their understanding, leading them to recognize the validity of each other’s beliefs.

The Powers Awaken

During these encounters, Momo awakens her psychic abilities, and Okarun gains the power of a curse. Together, they must confront various supernatural threats, including spirits and extraterrestrial beings. As they battle these forces, they form a close bond, and romantic tensions begin to rise.

Production Team

The second season of Dan Da Dan is animated by Studio Science SARU, with Fuga Yamashiro and Abel Gongora both credited as directors. The series composition is handled by Hiroshi Seko, with character designs by Naoyuki Onda and music by Kensuke Ushio.

Voice Cast

The main Japanese voice cast includes:

  • Shion Wakayama as Momo Ayase
  • Natsuki Hanae as Ken “Okarun” Takakura and Jin ‘Jiji’ Enjoji
  • Nana Mizuki as Seiko Ayase
  • Mayumi Tanaka as Turbo-Granny
  • Kazuya Nakai as Serpoian Alien
  • Ayane Sakura as Aira Shiratori
  • Mutsumi Tamura as Evil Eye

Where to Catch Up

For those new to the series or wanting to refresh their memory, the first season of Dan Da Dan is available for streaming on both Crunchyroll and Netflix. This provides an excellent opportunity to dive into the series’ unique world before the second season premieres.

A Manga Success

The Dan Da Dan manga, written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu, has been serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ since April 2021. The series has gained significant popularity, with over 10 million copies in circulation. Yukinobu Tatsu previously worked as an assistant on Chainsaw Man and Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku, bringing a wealth of experience to Dan Da Dan.

What Makes Dan Da Dan Stand Out?

Dan Da Dan has garnered praise for its ability to blend multiple genres seamlessly. The series combines elements of comedy, action, romance, science fiction, and the supernatural, creating a unique and engaging viewing experience. The dynamic between the main characters, Momo and Okarun, is a highlight, as they navigate their conflicting beliefs and develop a close bond.

Themes and Storytelling

The series explores themes of belief, acceptance, and the power of friendship. It also delves into the complexities of dealing with the unknown and confronting supernatural forces. The storytelling is both eccentric and action-centered, appealing to fans of series like Chainsaw Man, Hell’s Paradise, and Mob Psycho 100.

A Summer Anime Highlight

With its unique premise, engaging characters, and blend of genres, Dan Da Dan is poised to be one of the standout anime of the summer 2025 season. The addition of WurtS’s ending theme song further enhances the anticipation, promising an unforgettable viewing experience. Be sure to mark your calendars for the July 3 premiere and prepare to be swept away by the wild and wonderful world of Dan Da Dan!
