The darkly comedic manga series Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō (The Everyday Life of Torture Part-Time Workers) by Yawora Tsugumi is set to receive a TV anime adaptation in Winter 2026. The announcement was made by Kadokawa, accompanied by a teaser visual, promotional video, and the reveal of the main cast.

What’s ‘Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō’ About?

Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō is a workplace comedy set in a world where torture and murder are legal, and companies specialize in these grim practices. The manga follows Cero, a cheerful and easygoing part-time worker at one such company, Spirytus, a market leader specializing in torturing criminals. He works alongside his colleagues Shū, Mike, and Hugh.

The manga explores the everyday lives of these “torture part-timers,” contrasting the gruesome nature of their work with the mundane aspects of office life. The series has been praised for its unique blend of dark humor and slice-of-life elements.

Manga Origins

Written and illustrated by Yawora Tsugumi, Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō began serialization on Hakusensha’s Manga Park and Young Animal Web services on December 18, 2022. As of December 2024, the series has been compiled into five tankōbon volumes. Volume 6 is slated for release on June 27, 2025.

The series gained popularity on social media and quickly sold out as a doujinshi before its official serialization.

Anime Adaptation Details

The anime adaptation is scheduled to debut in Winter 2026. Kadokawa has released a teaser visual and promotional video to give fans a glimpse of what to expect.

Main Cast

The main cast for the anime has been announced:

  • Cero: Voiced by Shunichi Toki
  • Shū: Voiced by Takuma Terashima
  • Mike: Voiced by Takuma Nagatsuka
  • Hugh: Voiced by Yōhei Azakami

Staff

Details regarding the anime’s staff, including the director and animation studio, are yet to be revealed.

Author’s Comment

Yawora Tsugumi shared a comment and a special illustration to commemorate the anime announcement:

“Ever since I started drawing Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō, I’ve experienced so many things that felt unreal—things I never even dreamed of. I’m constantly reminded of how much support this series has received from everyone involved and from all the readers. And now, it’s being made into an anime—something that could be called the biggest dream for a manga artist. This is a dream we can all share. Please stay with us until we wake up from it—or better yet, let’s never wake up.”

Reception

Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō has garnered positive attention within the manga community. In 2023, it was nominated for the ninth Next Manga Awards, ranking sixth out of 61 nominees. The series also secured the 5th position in the Web Manga General Election 2023.

Where to Read the Manga

The manga is currently serialized on Hakusensha’s Young Animal Web. As of now, there is no official English publisher for the series.

Other Adaptations

Prior to the anime announcement, a promotional video featuring Junya Enoki as Cero and Hiroshi Kamiya as Shū was produced to promote the manga.

Themes and Analysis

Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō presents a unique take on the workplace comedy genre by juxtaposing the dark and violent world of torture with the mundane routines of office life. This contrast creates a darkly humorous and thought-provoking narrative.

Satire of Corporate Culture

The manga can be interpreted as a satire of corporate culture, where even the most extreme and unethical practices can become normalized within a company setting. The characters treat torture as just another job, highlighting the dehumanizing effects of corporate environments.

Exploration of Morality

The series raises questions about morality and ethics. By setting the story in a world where torture is legal, the manga challenges readers to consider their own moral boundaries and what they would be willing to accept in the name of employment or social acceptance.

Character Dynamics

The dynamics between the main characters add depth to the story. Cero’s cheerful and easygoing personality contrasts with the more serious and cynical attitudes of his colleagues. The interactions between these characters provide comedic relief and explore different perspectives on their unusual profession.

Winter 2026 Anime Season

Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō will be joining a diverse lineup of anime during the Winter 2026 season.

Social Media Buzz

The anime announcement has generated significant buzz on social media, with fans expressing their excitement and anticipation for the adaptation. The official anime’s Twitter account, @goumonbt_anime, has been actively promoting the series, sharing teaser visuals and updates.

Conclusion

Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō‘s anime adaptation promises to bring its unique blend of dark humor and workplace satire to a wider audience. With its intriguing premise, well-developed characters, and thought-provoking themes, this is one anime to watch out for in Winter 2026.
