The second season of the popular anime series My Dress-Up Darling is set to premiere in July 2025, and fans are eagerly awaiting its return. Alongside the premiere, there’s another exciting piece of news for fans: the ending theme song! This time, it’s a collaboration between two rising stars in the Japanese idol scene. Here’s everything you need to know about the new ending theme and the artists behind it.

“Kawaii Kaiwai” by PiKi: A Dream Collaboration

The ending theme for My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 is titled “Kawaii Kaiwai,” and it’s performed by a brand-new unit called PiKi. What makes PiKi special is that it’s a collaboration between Karen Matsumoto from FRUITS ZIPPER and Haruka Sakuraba from CUTIE STREET. Both groups are part of ASOBISYSTEM’s KAWAII LAB., making this collaboration a natural fit.

The song “Kawaii Kaiwai” is set to be released on music streaming services on July 4th.

Karen Matsumoto (FRUITS ZIPPER)

Karen Matsumoto is a member of FRUITS ZIPPER, a seven-member idol group that was formed in 2022. FRUITS ZIPPER is known for their energetic performances and catchy songs, with the group’s concept revolving around spreading Japanese idol culture to the world.

FRUITS ZIPPER was formed as part of ASOBISYSTEM’s KAWAII LAB. project. The group officially announced its formation on February 14, 2022, and revealed the lineup on February 22. They debuted with the digital single “Kimi no Akarui Mirai o Oikakete” on April 10, 2022. Their second single, “Watashi no Ichiban Kawaī tokoro,” released on April 29, 2022, went viral on TikTok.

The members of FRUITS ZIPPER are:

  • Amane Tsukiashi
  • Karen Matsumoto
  • Mana Manaka
  • Yui Sakurai
  • Noel Hayase
  • Luna Nakagawa
  • Suzuka Chinzei

FRUITS ZIPPER has gained considerable popularity since their debut. As of November 2024, the average age of the group is 24 years old, slightly higher than many other Japanese girl groups. Misa Kimura, who was the leader of the idol group Musubism, produces the group.

Haruka Sakuraba (CUTIE STREET)

Haruka Sakuraba is a member of CUTIE STREET, an eight-member girl group that debuted in 2024, also under the KAWAII LAB. project. CUTIE STREET aims to embody the concept of “KAWAII MAKER,” with each member bringing a unique background and personality to the group.

CUTIE STREET was formed on July 23, 2024, by Kawaii Lab., with the group’s name and members revealed on July 30, 2024. Before joining CUTIE STREET, members had various experiences as models, actresses, and members of other idol groups.

The members of CUTIE STREET are:

  • Risa Furusawa
  • Aika Sano
  • Kana Itakura
  • Ayano Masuda
  • Emiru Kawamoto
  • Miyu Umeda
  • Nagisa Manabe
  • Haruka Sakuraba

CUTIE STREET had their stage debut at TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL 2024 on August 4, 2024, and released their first digital single, “Can’t we just be cute?” on September 9, 2024.

The Meaning Behind “Kawaii Kaiwai”

Both Karen Matsumoto and Haruka Sakuraba have shared their excitement about being part of this collaboration. Haruka Sakuraba, a self-proclaimed huge fan of My Dress-Up Darling, expressed her shock and happiness at being chosen to perform the ending theme. She describes “Kawaii Kaiwai” as a beautiful song that captures Marin’s passion for both love and cosplay.

Karen Matsumoto hopes that the song will make everyone love the anime even more. She also encourages listeners to pay attention to how well her voice blends with Haruka’s, noting how surprisingly well they match.

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2: What to Expect
