The highly anticipated anime film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved, which premiered in Japanese theaters on June 27, 2025, has unveiled its non-credit opening, announced additional cast members, and released new captivating visuals.
Non-Credit Opening Theme Revealed
The official website for Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved has released the film’s non-credit opening sequence. The opening theme song, titled “Namida no Parade” (“Parade of Tears”), is performed by the popular Japanese pop-rock band fhána, a returning act from the television series. Kyoto Animation, the studio behind the film, also independently released this creditless sequence to celebrate the movie’s debut.
Expanding the Voice Cast
The film introduces several new voices to its ensemble, alongside the beloved returning cast. Fumihiko Tachiki joins as the voice of Kimun Kamui, Kanna’s father and leader of the Chaos Forces, while Nobunaga Shimazaki takes on the role of Azad. Notably, Shiori Sugiura steps in as the new voice for the character Ilulu, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi who retired from voice acting in 2022.
In a significant casting announcement, veteran singer Sachiko Kobayashi lends her voice to Felicitas, a dragon within Kimun Kamui’s army. Kobayashi also performs the film’s emotional ending theme song, “Bokutachi no Hibi” (“Days of Us”). Rounding out the new additions are Shinya Takahashi and Azusa Tadokoro, who voice fairies.
The returning main cast includes Mutsumi Tamura as Kobayashi, Yūki Kuwahara as Tohru, and Maria Naganawa as Kanna Kamui. Other familiar voices reprising their roles are Yūki Takada as Elma, Minami Takahashi as Lucoa, Daisuke Ono as Fafnir, Yūichi Nakamura as Makoto Takiya, Emiri Katō as Riko Saikawa, and Kaori Ishihara as Shōta Magatsuchi.
New Visuals Unveiled
To commemorate the theatrical release, a special collaboration visual was unveiled. This unique artwork features characters drawn by both the original manga author, Coolkyousinnjya (who illustrated Kanna, Kobayashi, Tohru, and Iruru), and the anime’s character designer, Miku Kadowaki (who depicted Kimun Kamui and Azad). The visual portrays a tense face-off, hinting at the conflicts within the film’s narrative. Additionally, a new key visual was previously showcased at AnimeJapan 2025, building anticipation for the movie’s release.
Directed by Tatsuya Ishihara at Kyoto Animation, with Yuka Yamada providing the script and Miku Kadowaki serving as character designer and chief animation director, the film directly continues the story from the second season of the anime. Crunchyroll has acquired the worldwide theatrical rights for the film, excluding Asia, and plans to screen it in North America with Japanese audio and English subtitles.
