The highly anticipated anime film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved, has recently revealed its non-credit opening sequence, expanded its voice cast, and showcased new stunning visuals ahead of its Japanese premiere. The film officially opened in Japanese theaters on June 27, 2025.
Non-Credit Opening and Theme Song
The non-credit opening for the movie, featuring the theme song “Namida no Parade” (Parade of Tears) performed by fhána, has been officially released. fhána has been a consistent musical contributor to the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid anime series since its first TV season in 2017, providing a familiar sound for fans. The ending theme song for the film is “Bokutachi no Hibi” (“Our Days”), performed by Sachiko Kobayashi.
Additional and Returning Cast Members
The film introduces several new voices to its cast, including Fumihiko Tachiki as the character Kimun Kamui and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Azad. Notably, Shiori Sugiura takes over the role of Ilulu, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi, who retired from voice acting in 2022. Additionally, Shinya Takahashi and Azusa Tadokoro have joined the cast to voice fairies.

This unique visual portrays characters such as Kanna, Kobayashi, Tohru, and Iruru by Coolkyoushinja, alongside Kimun Kamui and Azad drawn by Kadowaki, hinting at a brewing conflict between them. Prior to this, new key visuals and character visuals were also released, providing further glimpses into the film’s artistic direction and character designs.
Film’s Plot and International Release
Directed by Tatsuya Ishihara at Kyoto Animation, the film directly continues the story after the events of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S, the anime’s second season. The narrative centers on a significant upheaval in the peaceful lives of Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, Kanna, and Ilulu when Kanna’s father, Kamun Kamui, who leads the Chaos Forces, arrives to compel Kanna to return to the Dragon World to rectify a past error. As a war between Chaos and Harmony threatens, Kanna finds herself torn between her allegiance to her friends and her father’s demands. Miss Kobayashi refuses to let Kanna go, attempting to mend Kanna and Kamui’s fractured relationship. Meanwhile, Iruru discovers a hidden force manipulating the conflict, raising the stakes for all involved. The movie has a runtime of 105 minutes.
Crunchyroll has secured the worldwide theatrical rights to the film, excluding Asia. This means that fans in North America and other regions outside of Asia will be able to experience the film in Japanese with English subtitles. Crunchyroll also streams both previous seasons of the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid TV anime, allowing new and returning viewers to catch up on the series.
