The highly anticipated CG anime short, Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express, a sequel to the viral Milky☆Highway short, has unveiled its second trailer, offering a deeper look at the upcoming space-train spectacle. The new trailer confirms additional voice cast members and reveals the charming theme song, all ahead of its scheduled July 3 debut.
Expanding the Crew: New Voice Cast Revealed
The second trailer for Milky☆Subway introduces several prominent voice actors who will be joining the chaotic journey aboard the interplanetary train. The newly announced cast members and their respective roles are:
- Hisako Kanemoto as Akane
- Mikako Komatsu as Ryōko
- Kōki Uchiyama as Kurt
- Makoto Koichi as Kanata
- Yoshitaka Yamaya as Max
These actors join the previously announced lead cast, Momoko Terasawa as Chiharu and Anna Nagase as Makina, completing the ensemble of misfits and authority figures central to the short’s narrative.
A Blast from the Past: Theme Song by Candies
Adding a nostalgic touch to the futuristic setting, the anime short will feature “Gingakei Made Tonde Ike!” (Fly to the Galaxy!), a 1977 song by the iconic Japanese girl group Candies, as its theme song. This choice promises a unique auditory experience, blending classic Japanese pop with cutting-edge CG animation. The theme song’s composition is credited to Takurō Yoshida, with lyrics by Makoto Kitajō.
The Premise: A Ride into Interstellar Chaos
Milky☆Subway picks up where its predecessor, Yōhei Kameyama’s 2022 Milky☆Highway CG anime short, left off. The story centers on super-human Chiharu and cyborg Makina, who find themselves arrested for violating space traffic laws. Their sentence? Community service cleaning the “Milky☆Subway,” an old interplanetary train.
However, what should have been a straightforward task quickly devolves into pandemonium when the train unexpectedly rockets into deep space. The synopsis teases a journey fueled by “pure momentum,” devoid of purpose, principle, or a clear destination, promising a “never-before-seen space-train spectacle.”
Visionary Creator: Yōhei Kameyama’s Singular Effort
Yōhei Kameyama, the original creator of Milky☆Highway, returns to helm the sequel, showcasing his multi-talented approach to animation. Kameyama is credited not only as the director, writer, and producer but also handled the character designs, modeling, animation, editing, and sound production for Milky☆Subway. His original Milky☆Highway short, which served as his graduation project from Kadokawa’s Vantan Game Academy CG Animator major, garnered significant attention, accumulating over 6.75 million combined views for its English-subtitled and original versions.
The new short is being produced by Titan Industries, with Shin-Ei Animation handling planning production.

Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express is set to premiere on July 3. Fans can catch the short on TOKYO MX in Japan and simultaneously stream it worldwide on YouTube. Notably, the anime short will be made available with dubbed versions in 10 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Thai, Russian, and Chinese, ensuring broad global accessibility.
