A New Vision for a Cyberpunk Classic
The new TV anime, officially titled THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, maintains the name of Masamune Shirow’s original manga. This adaptation aims to stay true to the original source material, a point emphasized by a producer during the Anime Expo panel. The project marks the fourth anime adaptation of the Ghost in the Shell manga series, following works by Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Kamiyama, and Kazuchika Kise, or the tenth adaptation overall if all series and films are counted separately. Toh Enjoe, an acclaimed sci-fi novelist and scriptwriter for works such as The Empire of Corpses and Godzilla Singular Point, is handling both the script and series composition. Character design and chief animation director duties are being undertaken by Shūhei Handa, who has previously worked on Little Witch Academia and Spriggan ONA.

A significant reveal alongside the second teaser was the anime’s title logo, which was designed by renowned artist Hajime Sorayama. Sorayama is celebrated for his “Sexy Robot” series and has contributed to album covers, including Aerosmith’s “Just Push Play”.
