Instead, he finds himself as an overpowered demon and a mid-level boss or “low rank guardian” in the Demon Lord’s castle, with no particular desire to become the Demon Lord himself.
His peaceful, albeit unassuming, life takes an unexpected turn when a hero’s party arrives to attack the Demon Lord’s stronghold. While Yoki effortlessly repels their assault, he is instantly smitten with Cecilia, a kind yet strong-willed cleric who is part of the hero’s party. Despite being admired by his subordinates, Yoki becomes shy and awkward in Cecilia’s presence, leading to a heartwarming and often comedic pursuit of love between a demon and a cleric.
Origin of the Series: Light Novels and Manga
The story originated as a web novel written by Suisei, which began serialization on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō (Let’s Become Novelists) website in 2013. Futabasha later started publishing the series in print as a light novel, featuring illustrations by La-na.
A manga adaptation by Kairi is currently serialized on Futabasha’s online platforms, Manga Gaogao and Gaogao Monster Plus. The manga adaptation is widely credited as the basis for the anime series. The manga is ongoing and has been published since at least January 2021. The 10th volume of the manga was released in November 2024.
