A brand-new Sgt. Frog (also known as Keroro Gunsou or Sgt. Keroro) anime film is officially in production and is slated to premiere in Japan in Summer 2026. This upcoming theatrical release marks a significant return for the franchise, being the first Sgt. Frog movie in 16 years, with the last installment released in 2010.
Celebrating 20 Years of Anime
The new film is a central part of a larger project commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Sgt. Frog anime, which originally began airing in 2004. The beloved series is making its long-awaited return to the big screen, aiming to bring back the classic humor and familiar characters that fans have cherished.
Returning Cast and Creative Team
The original voice cast, including Kumiko Watanabe as Sergeant Keroro and Hoko Kuwashima as Fuyuki Hinata, are confirmed to reprise their roles, ensuring continuity for long-time fans.
The creative team behind the new film includes:
- Chief Director & Screenwriter: Yuichi Fukuda, known for his work on live-action adaptations such as Gintama and HK: Forbidden Super Hero, will be handling both the script and chief direction.
- Director: Fumitoshi Oizaki, who has served as the Sgt. Frog character designer since 2004, is set to direct the movie.
- Character Designer: Satoshi Koike, who was also the director for the Sgt. Frog 20th anniversary video animation, is responsible for the character designs.
- Animation Studio: BN Pictures will be handling the animation production.
Promotional Efforts and Theme Song
As part of the anniversary promotions, popular singer and media personality Ano has been appointed as the official campaign ambassador. Ano also performs a new theme song for the film titled “Mata Kaette Kita Kero! to March” (which translates to “We’re Back Again, Kero! March”) alongside comedian Soshina from the duo Shimofuri Myojo. This song is featured in the recently released teaser trailer for the movie. A special program titled “Keroro Gunso no Kero! to Radio” was also streamed on the official Keroro Channel on YouTube, featuring discussions about the upcoming film and teaser with voice actors Kumiko Watanabe and Etsuko Kozakura, along with Ano as a guest.
