A new anime season for the popular “Ascendance of a Bookworm” series, subtitled “Adopted Daughter of an Archduke” (adapting Part 3 of the light novel), is officially set to premiere in Spring 2026. This upcoming season will see a change in animation studios, with WIT Studio taking over production from Studio Ajia-do, which animated the first three seasons.
The announcement regarding the 2026 premiere was made by Japanese publisher TO Books via their official X (formerly Twitter) account. Further details are expected to be revealed closer to the broadcast date. The news was also anticipated to be revealed on the wrap-around band of the third “Ascendance of a Bookworm” short story collection, which was released in Japan on December 10, 2024. This new anime adaptation was initially announced in December 2023.
“Ascendance of a Bookworm” (Honzuki no Gekokujō – Shisho ni Naru Tame niwa Shudan o Erandeiramasen) is a “biblia fantasy” light novel series by Miya Kazuki. The story follows Urano Motosu, a book-loving college student who dies and is reincarnated as a sickly five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and expensive. Myne, now Rozemyne, resolves to make her own books in this new world, with the ultimate goal of becoming a librarian. The light novel series has over 11 million copies in circulation, including digital copies.
The anime series previously aired for three seasons between 2019 and 2022. Crunchyroll has streamed all previous seasons, including English dubs.
