The popular four-panel comedy manga, Ichijōma Mankitsu Gurashi!, also known by its English title Living Life to the Fullest in a Tiny One-Tatami-Mat-Sized Room, is officially being adapted into a television anime series. The announcement was made in the August issue of Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara magazine on Wednesday, July 8, 2025. This news was further corroborated by the creation of an official X (formerly Twitter) account for the anime, which shared a congratulatory message and artwork from the manga’s author.
The Premise of “Ichijōma Mankitsu Gurashi!”
Authored by Mako Hisamaku (also credited as Kumako Hisama), Ichijōma Mankitsu Gurashi! began serialization in Manga Time Kirara magazine in December 2018. The series is a light-hearted, “somewhat sexy manga café comedy” that follows the daily life of Meiko Morita, a high school student from the countryside.
Meiko moves to Tokyo to enroll in an elite girls’ academy. To cover her tuition fees, she accepts an unconventional arrangement: free schooling in exchange for volunteer work. This leads her to live and work at “Hedgehog,” a unique establishment that functions as both a manga café and a girls’ dormitory.

At Hedgehog, Meiko quickly finds herself surrounded by a colorful and eccentric cast of characters, leading to chaotic and hilarious daily activities. Among them are:

- Neo Nakano: A skilled professional gamer who competes in world championships and is knowledgeable about technology.
Though initially overwhelmed by her new environment and housemates, Meiko gradually forms close bonds with the group. The manga is notable for its four-koma format, where panels are divided into four equal parts and typically read from top to bottom.

The manga has gained a loyal readership for its carefree style and endearing characters. Its fourth compiled book volume is scheduled to be released on July 26, 2025.
