The “Anne Shirley” anime, an adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s “Anne of Green Gables” novel series, has announced two new cast members for its upcoming “Redmond College Arc.” This new arc is set to begin on July 19.

The newly revealed cast members are:

• Chika Anzai as Philippa Gordon, who becomes Anne’s classmate and close friend at Redmond College. Anzai is known for her role as Reina Kosaka in “Sound! Euphonium”.
• Tokuyoshi Kawashima as Royal “Roy” Gardner, a character signaling a major turning point in Anne’s life. Kawashima’s previous roles include Naomasa Tsukauchi in “My Hero Academia”.

The “Anne Shirley” anime, produced by The Answer Studio and directed by Hiroshi Kawamata, premiered on April 5, 2025, on NHK Educational TV and is scheduled for 24 episodes. Crunchyroll is streaming the series. The anime adapts the first three of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s original “Anne of Green Gables” books: “Anne of Green Gables,” “Anne of Avonlea,” and “Anne of the Island,” chronicling Anne’s journey from a spirited young girl to a mature woman. The existing main cast includes Honoka Inoue as Anne Shirley, Aya Nakamura as Marilla Cuthbert, Yasunori Matsumoto as Matthew Cuthbert, Naoya Miyase as Gilbert Blythe, and Yume Miyamoto as Diana Barry. A manga adaptation of the series also launched on January 5, 2025.
