Crunchyroll has announced that it is now streaming Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon, a compilation film of the first season of the popular anime series Kaiju No. 8. The film became available on the platform starting July 12, 2025.
The Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon omnibus movie offers an action-packed recap of the first season and notably includes a new original episode titled “Hoshina’s Day Off.” This special episode follows Reno as he senses something unusual with Hoshina during their day off, leading him to tail Hoshina along with Iharu. The American band OneRepublic performs the ending theme song “Invincible (from Kaiju No. 8)” for the “Hoshina’s Day Off” segment.
The compilation film initially premiered in Japanese theaters on March 28, 2025, for a limited three-week run across 32 theaters. Subsequently, it had its North American theatrical debut on April 13, with additional screenings on April 14 and 16, presented by Sony Pictures Entertainment. These theatrical screenings were available in both Japanese with English subtitles and an English dub.
Crunchyroll is making Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon available in a wide range of territories, including North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and the Indian Subcontinent. The streaming platform supports various subtitle options, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Castilian, Arabic, European Portuguese, and Polish. The release of the compilation film on Crunchyroll precedes the debut of the second season of the Kaiju No. 8 TV anime, which is slated to begin broadcasting in Japan in July 2025, and will also be streamed by Crunchyroll.
