The Story of an Overlooked “Saint”
The Oblivious Saint Can’t Contain Her Power light novel series, penned by Almond and illustrated by Yoshiro Ambe, began its serialization on the user-generated novel publishing website Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2020 before being acquired by Earth Star Entertainment in June 2021. The series concluded with its fourth and final volume in June 2023.
J-Novel Club, which releases the light novel series in English, describes the story as follows: Lady Carolina, the often-overlooked daughter of a powerful duke, has always believed herself to be a disappointment within her family. Her elder sister, Flora, is a prodigious mage destined to become the nation’s next Saint, consistently reinforcing Carolina’s perceived shortcomings. Carolina resigns herself to a quiet existence in her sister’s shadow until an unexpected royal decree alters her fate, thrusting her into a political marriage with the formidable “Bloodthirsty Prince” of the neighboring Empire of Malcosias.
Carolina anticipates further disappointment in her new life, but to her surprise, her husband-to-be, Prince Edward Ruby Martinez, and her new in-laws seem to genuinely adore her. The narrative explores Carolina’s journey as she attempts to escape the anguish of her past and rise to the occasion as Edward’s imperial consort, particularly as she begins to realize she might not be as “powerless” as she once assumed. The story delves into themes of self-discovery, overcoming past trauma, and the true nature of power.
