HOUSTON, TX – July 21, 2025 – AMC Networks’ anime streaming service HIDIVE announced today that it will serve as a co-producer for the upcoming television anime adaptation of Mikihisa Konishi’s popular supernatural action manga, Petals of Reincarnation (Rinkaneshon no Kaben). This highly anticipated series is currently in production for a future release.
The announcement marks a significant step for HIDIVE, underscoring its commitment to expanding its exclusive content library through direct investment in anime production. John Ledford, President of HIDIVE, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We’re thrilled to announce the highly anticipated anime adaptation of Petals of Reincarnation as HIDIVE’s newest co-production. Petals of Reincarnation has been beloved by readers for more than a decade and HIDIVE, together with the entire Production Committee, looks forward to bringing the manga series to life as a supernatural action anime!”
What is Petals of Reincarnation?
Petals of Reincarnation, written and illustrated by Mikihisa Konishi, is a supernatural action manga that explores the concept of reincarnation and inherited talents. The series first began serialization in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Blade magazine in May 2014, later transferring to the publisher’s Comic Blade website in September of the same year. The manga has since accumulated 21 published volumes and boasts over 3 million copies in circulation. Mangamo has licensed the manga for English release.
The Intriguing Premise
The story centers on Toya Senji, a high school student who perceives himself as talentless, despite excelling academically, often comparing himself to his overachieving older brother. His life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Haito La Buffet, a classmate who has been absent for an extended period. Haito reveals that she has utilized a “Stem of Reincarnation” to inherit the abilities of her past lives, becoming a “Returner.” In Haito’s case, she has gained the talents of the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
Toya soon learns that talent is not merely learned but can be gained from a previous life, often through self-inflicted death and the supernatural aid of the “Stem of Reincarnation.” Haito further informs Toya about the existence of other Returners, individuals reincarnated with talents from their past lives, who harbor ambitious plans for their inherited abilities. This revelation sets Toya on a journey to discover his own potential and delve into the broader implications of the Returners’ powers.
HIDIVE’s Growing Co-Production Portfolio
This co-production further solidifies HIDIVE’s strategy of directly investing in anime projects to offer exclusive content to its subscribers. Owned by AMC Networks, HIDIVE has been expanding its global reach and content offerings since AMC Networks acquired its parent company, Sentai Holdings, LLC (which includes Sentai Filmworks), in January 2022.
HIDIVE previously announced Giant Beasts of Ars as its first co-production in October 2022. The streaming service has been actively securing licensing agreements and simulcast rights, including a multi-year deal with Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS) for exclusive distribution rights to a portion of MBS’s future programming outside Asia. This strategic move positions HIDIVE as a key player in the competitive anime streaming landscape, offering a curated and often exclusive selection of titles to its audience.
Subscribers to HIDIVE can access a diverse library of anime series and films, often with both English subtitles and dubs, and enjoy first-run simulcasts at or near the same time as their Japanese broadcast. The service is available across various platforms, including Amazon Prime Video Channels in multiple regions and direct apps on CTV partners like Samsung, LG, and VIZIO.
