The much-awaited anime adaptation of Keiichirou Shibuya’s popular manga, “Ruri Rocks” (also known as “Ruri no Hōseki” or “Introduction to Mineralogy”), officially premiered in Japan on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 9:30 PM JST, captivating audiences with its unique blend of slice-of-life charm and educational insights into mineralogy. The series immediately began streaming globally on Crunchyroll, bringing the adventure to fans worldwide.

A Sparkling Debut for a Unique Story

“Ruri Rocks” introduces viewers to Ruri Tanigawa, a high school student whose fascination with jewelry and accessories leads her down an unexpected path: the world of mineral collecting. Her journey truly begins when she encounters Nagi Arato, a knowledgeable graduate student specializing in mineralogy. Together, they embark on exciting expeditions to mountains, rivers, and caves, transforming mineral collecting into a modern-day treasure hunt.

The anime, produced by Studio Bind—known for “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation”—has garnered attention for its unique focus on geology, seamlessly integrating scientific facts with heartwarming storytelling and personal growth. The first episode, titled “Collecting Minerals for the First Time,” laid the groundwork for Ruri’s budding passion, with Nagi guiding her through the initial discoveries and the beauty of the natural world.

Production Details and Global Accessibility

The “Ruri Rocks” anime series is directed by Shingo Fujii, with Michiko Yokote handling the series composition. Mayu Fujii is responsible for character designs, while Daisuke Achiwa and Kazuki Yanagawa compose the music, creating an immersive experience for viewers. Rei Yasuda performs the opening theme song “Hikari no Sumika,” and Hana Hope performs the ending theme song “Sapphire.”

For Japanese audiences, the series is broadcast on networks including Tokyo MX, BS11, ABC TV, TV Aichi, and AT-X. International fans can access “Ruri Rocks” via Crunchyroll, which offers the series with subtitles in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, and more. Plus Media Networks Asia has also licensed the series for streaming in Southeast Asia.

Anticipation for the Season Ahead

The first season of “Ruri Rocks” is slated for a 12-episode run, with new chapters released weekly, each approximately 23 minutes long. The manga, written and illustrated by Keiichirou Shibuya, has been serialized in Enterbrain’s Harta magazine since August 2019 and has already collected six tankōbon volumes as of July 2025, indicating a rich source material for the anime adaptation.

Fans are eager to see how Ruri’s understanding and appreciation for mineralogy evolve, as the series promises to deliver both educational value and engaging character interactions. With its strong premiere, “Ruri Rocks” is set to be a sparkling addition to the summer anime lineup.
