The upcoming anime adaptation of Aki Akimoto’s manga series Mechanical Marie (Kikaijikake no Marie) has announced the addition of Yūichirō Umehara and Daishi Kajita to its voice cast. Umehara will portray the character Roy, while Kajita will voice Maynard. The new casting details were revealed alongside a new key visual for the series.
New Character Introductions: Roy and Maynard
Yūichirō Umehara is cast as Roy, a close aide to Arthur’s father who was instrumental in scouting Marie to become a “mechanical maid.” Daishi Kajita will take on the role of Maynard, who is introduced as Arthur’s older step-sibling. Both actors have reportedly commented on their new roles.
Series Premiere and Previously Announced Cast
The Mechanical Marie anime series is slated to premiere in October 2025. It will be broadcast on Tokyo MX, ytv, and BS Fuji.
The addition of Umehara and Kajita expands an already announced cast. Nao Tōyama was previously confirmed to voice the titular character Marie, a human girl who pretends to be a robot maid. Haruki Ishiya is set to voice Arthur, the wealthy heir who despises humans but dotes on his “mechanical maid.” Other previously revealed cast members include Chiaki Kobayashi as Noah and Ami Koshimizu as Marie-2.
The Story of Mechanical Marie
Mechanical Marie is based on Aki Akimoto’s romantic comedy manga, which was initially published as a one-shot in Hakusensha’s LaLa shōjo manga magazine in March 2020. It was later serialized in the same magazine from June 2020 to June 2023, with six tankōbon volumes released. A sequel series, Mechanical Marie+, began serialization in LaLa in April 2025. Yen Press has licensed the series for English publication and will release the first volume in August 2025.
The story centers on Marie, a former martial arts prodigy who, burdened by debt, takes a job as a “mechanical maid” for Arthur Louis Zetes, a conglomerate heir who harbors a deep distrust of humans. Marie must meticulously conceal her human identity, as its discovery would lead to immediate execution. While flawlessly performing her duties and secretly protecting Arthur from constant assassination attempts, she navigates the complexities of Arthur’s peculiar affection for inanimate objects, which extends to his doting behavior towards her “robot” persona. The series promises a blend of thrilling close calls and heartwarming comedic moments as Arthur unknowingly inches closer to uncovering Marie’s secret.
Production Team
The anime adaptation is being produced by studios Zero-G and Liber. Junji Nishimura is directing the series, with Mariko Kunisawa handling the series composition. Yoko Kikuchi is responsible for character designs, and the music is being composed by Yasuharu Takanashi and Johannes Nilsson.
