Tokyo, Japan – The upcoming TV anime adaptation of the popular light novel series, “Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table” (Shibou Yuugi de Meshi o Kuu.), has released an “ultra teaser” promotional video and visual, alongside revealing its main cast member and additional production staff. The series is set to premiere in Japan in January 2026.

Chiyuki Miura Cast as Protagonist Yuki

Voice actress Chiyuki Miura, known for her role as Nonomi in Blue Archive The Animation, has been cast as the protagonist, Yuki. Yuki is a professional player who earns her living by participating in deadly survival games. Miura expressed both excitement and nervousness about the role, acknowledging the fragile and brutal world the anime portrays.

Production Team and Studio DEEN

Studio DEEN is producing the anime adaptation. The directorial reins are held by Sota Ueno, who previously worked on Days with My Stepsister. Rintaro Ikeda (Insomniacs After School) is handling the series composition, while Eri Osada (The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat) is responsible for character designs. The music will be composed by Junichi Matsumoto (The Ancient Magus’ Bride), with music production by Nippon Columbia. Noriyoshi Konuma (The Dangers in My Heart) is the sound director.

Additional newly revealed staff members include hewa for concept art, Imari Katsuragi for color design, Yoshihiro Nakamura as art director, Shinyo Kondo as director of photography, Haruko Kikuchi for editing, and Kaori Yamada for sound effects.

About “Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table”

The original “Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table” light novel series is written by Yushi Ukai and illustrated by Nekometaru. It began publication in November 2022 under Media Factory’s MF Bunko J imprint. Yen Press publishes the English language version of the series.

The story centers on Yuki, who wakes up in an unfamiliar manor wearing a maid’s uniform, alongside five other girls. They find themselves in the “Ghost House,” where survival depends on navigating deadly traps and games involving blowguns, buzz saws, and locked rooms. Despite the terrifying situation, Yuki views it as her career. The narrative delves into a world where young girls, known as “Players,” risk their lives in these games for prize money, with death always a possibility. A manga adaptation by Banzai Kotobuki Daienkai has also been serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Comp Ace since April 2023.
