The Story So Far: An Unlikely Pair
The series centers on Mai (also referred to as Mugi in some descriptions), a high school freshman with no dating experience and poor communication skills when it comes to boys. Her high school life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters Kei Kurose, a handsome but notoriously blunt and rude individual towards girls. Despite their initial clashing personalities, Mai accidentally discovers Kei’s secret part-time job. This discovery forces them to interact and build a unique relationship, leading to a romantic comedy filled with friction and unexpected moments.
Yen Press has licensed the manga for English release in North America. They released the first English volume on September 17, 2024, and the third volume on May 27, 2025, with the fourth volume set to ship on October 28, 2025. The series was recognized for its appeal, ranking sixth in the Nationwide Bookstore Employees’ Recommended Comics of 2023.
