The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Kei Urana and Hideyoshi Andou’s Gachiakuta manga officially premiered in July 2025. The series is streaming on Crunchyroll, with the first episode becoming available on July 6, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. PT. Both subtitled and English dubbed versions premiered on the same day.

Streaming Availability and Release Schedule

Gachiakuta is exclusively available for streaming on Crunchyroll in various territories, including North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS (excluding Russia and Belarus), and the Indian subcontinent. While a Crunchyroll subscription offers ad-free viewing, the series is also available with ads for non-subscribers. Additionally, the series can be purchased digitally on platforms like Apple TV and Amazon Video.

New episodes of Gachiakuta are released weekly, shortly after their broadcast in Japan. The anime is confirmed to run for two consecutive cours, with a total of 24 episodes expected to air from July 6, 2025, to December 14, 2025. In Japan, the series airs on CBC, TBS, and other affiliated networks, as well as on BS Nippon TV and AT-X. Digital platforms in Japan, such as Lemino, d Anime Store, and Netflix Japan, also carry the series.

Plot and Production Details

Gachiakuta is a battle action series that follows Rudo, an orphan living in the slums of a floating town. The poor inhabitants of these slums are discriminated against by the wealthy who reside above and discard their trash into the abyss below. Rudo, known for his extraordinary physical abilities, makes a living by scavenging. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when he is falsely accused of a crime and exiled into the fearsome abyss known as “The Pit,” where monstrous “Trash Beasts” roam. To survive and seek vengeance, Rudo must master a new power and join a group called the “Cleaners” who combat these creatures. The story explores themes of conformity, authority, and discrimination, with the concept of “Anima” imbuing objects with feelings and actions.

The anime adaptation is produced by Bones Film, known for works such as My Hero Academia and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Fumihiko Suganuma is directing the series, with Hiroshi Seko handling series composition, Satoshi Ishino on character design and chief animation direction, and Taku Iwasaki composing the music. The opening theme song is “HUGs” by Paledusk, and the ending theme is “Tomoshibi” by DUSTCELL. The manga, created by Kei Urana with graffiti designs by Hideyoshi Andou, began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2022 and has released 15 tankōbon volumes as of June 2025.
