In “Sumire,” Nene and Hanako find themselves separated from Akane and Aoi, ending up in a village where they are mistaken for mononoke. A young woman named Sumire (voiced by Yuzuki Ryouka), who appears to hold a position of importance in the village, takes them into her custody, binding them and bringing them to her home. Sumire, who reminds Nene of Aoi, makes it clear that Nene and Hanako are not free to leave, and even Hanako is unable to overcome her restrictions.
Sumire reveals that she is to be wed the following day, and Nene soon deduces that the marriage is to Number Six, whom Sumire has known since childhood. It is further revealed that Sumire is a living yorishiro, seemingly the key to unraveling this mysterious world. The “wedding” is, in fact, a human sacrifice, and Sumire attempts to trick Nene into taking her place.
