The popular “Tokugawa Restoration Labyrinth, Ooku” limited-time event from the mobile game Fate/Grand Order is set to receive a manga adaptation. The announcement, made via the official X (formerly Twitter) account for Kadokawa’s Comptiq magazine and Type-Moon Comic Ace website, also revealed that character designer ReDrop will be handling the artwork for the manga.

ReDrop to Illustrate ‘Ooku’ Manga

ReDrop, known for designing the character Kama, a central figure in the “Tokugawa Restoration Labyrinth, Ooku” event, will be the artist for the upcoming manga adaptation. This marks a notable development as ReDrop has a background in R18 doujin art and character design for light novels, making a manga adaptation from them a rare and anticipated occurrence. The exact launch date for the manga will be announced at a later time by Type-Moon Comic Ace.

The Labyrinthine Plot of the Ooku Event

The “Tokugawa Restoration Labyrinth, Ooku” event first launched in the Japanese version of Fate/Grand Order in 2019, with the English version following in 2021. The story plunges players into a mysterious scenario where Chaldea Headquarters falls eerily silent after an attack. The protagonist, Master, along with a surviving Servant, Rayshifts to mid-17th century Japan, the Edo Period. The core of the abnormality lies within the deepest parts of Edo Castle, where the Ooku—a realm detached from the outside world—has transformed into an enigmatic and seemingly bottomless labyrinth. Players navigate the “corridor of bells” (osuzurouka) within this luxurious, transformed Ooku to uncover the cause of the anomaly.

The event’s narrative is deeply intertwined with the antagonist Kama, the Indian god of love, who transforms the Ooku into a massive, multi-floored labyrinth fueled by gathered souls. The powerful Tokugawa shoguns are trapped within “pill boxes” scattered throughout this structure, essentially making the Ooku a manifestation of Tokugawa energy with Kama at its core. Kama’s objective is to evolve into a universal beast, spreading her influence and “love” across humanity. To deter intruders, Kama imbues the labyrinth with a curse that transforms anyone entering into a Tokugawa. Progression through the labyrinth’s floors requires the player to break the five Buddhist precepts.

Event Significance and Accessibility

The “Tokugawa Restoration Labyrinth, Ooku” event is significant for expanding the Fate/Grand Order lore by introducing a new Beast of Humanity, with Kama being a direct result of events unfolding in the Indian Lostbelt. The event is notable for its maze-like gameplay, requiring players to use special paper lanterns to unlock passageways and progress through the story and quests. While the event does not reward a free Servant, it offered global players their first opportunity to acquire Kama, a powerful 5-star Assassin.

For players who may have missed its initial run, the “Tokugawa Restoration Labyrinth, Ooku” event has been made permanently accessible through the Main Interlude system. This allows Masters to experience the event’s story content at any time, with players who cleared the original event still able to participate for rewards, though Holy Grails are replaced with Crystallized Lores.
