The television anime adaptation of Sigma Torai’s adult manga, Sono Keisatsukan, Tokidoki Yajū! (That Policeman, Sometimes a Beast!), has been canceled. The announcement, made by the production committee on August 4, cited “various circumstances” as the reason for the decision, offering no further specific details. The anime was initially slated for a 2025 broadcast.
Initial Announcement and Production Details
The anime adaptation was first announced in March 2025. Rabbit Gate was producing the series, with Kazuhiro Toda serving as chief director and Saburou Miura directing and writing the scripts. Yukihiro Makino was the assistant director, Haruna Kamiyama was credited as character designer, and Hisayoshi Hirasawa was the sound director.
The Manga’s Premise
Sono Keisatsukan, Tokidoki Yajū! is a “teens’ love” (TL) manga series written and illustrated by Sigma Torai. It has been serialized online via NTT Solmare’s Comic Seymour website under Ichijinsha’s LOVEBITES e-book label since December 2019. The manga has gathered significant popularity, with 2 million copies in circulation as of March 2025, and its 10th volume was published on April 1.
The story revolves around Hiyori, a timid office worker, and Kumano, a policeman. After Hiyori gets into an accident and breaks her arm, Kumano, who was present, feels responsible and offers to live with her to provide support during her recovery. While Hiyori finds comfort in Kumano’s role as a police officer, she soon discovers his true nature, which involves “little self-restraint” and “darker impulses.”
Unspecified Reasons for Cancellation
The production committee’s statement conveyed a sincere apology to fans who were anticipating the broadcast and to all parties involved in the project. However, the use of the phrase “various circumstances” leaves the precise reasons behind the cancellation unaddressed. This lack of detailed explanation is common in such announcements within the entertainment industry.
