The highly anticipated mobile and PC game, Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME, is officially set to launch worldwide on Sunday, August 31, 2025. The release date, alongside a new trailer, key visual, and the reveal of original game characters, was announced during a special “8th Day” broadcast.

Akatsuki Games, in collaboration with TOHO and Production I.G., confirmed the global release of Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME for August 31, 2025. The free-to-play RPG will be available on iOS, Android via App Store and Google Play, and PC via Steam. This announcement was a highlight of the special “8th Day” broadcast, which also showcased a new trailer and a key visual for the game. The game will support multiple languages, including English, French, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.
A Glimpse into Gameplay and Story
The new trailer provided an exciting look at the game’s cinematic, turn-based battle RPG system. Players will engage in strategic command-based battles, utilizing their Defense Force officers’ skills to attack and unleash powerful Ultimates when a Kaiju’s core is exposed. Kafka Hibino’s voice actor, Masaya Fukunishi, demonstrated live gameplay during the “Kaiju No. 8 Day Special Program,” highlighting the high-end graphics, polished battle scenes, and smooth controls. The game will feature both familiar characters and storylines from the original manga and anime, as well as exclusive original narratives and character-focused stories.
The game’s narrative centers on mysterious “Kaiju Dimensional Gates” that have appeared due to the actions of a specific Kaiju, leading to new threats globally. Identified Kaiju thought to be defeated are now reappearing, and unknown Kaiju with special abilities, seemingly responsible for these gates, continue to emerge.
Introducing New Original Characters: CLOZER
A significant reveal from the broadcast was the introduction of new game-original characters belonging to a special unit named “CLOZER.” This task force, created specifically for Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME, is commanded by Sagan Shinomiya and operates to counter threats from the Kaiju Dimensional Gates.
Among the newly revealed CLOZER members are:
- Chester Lockbern: A former British Defense Force member, Chester acts as a strategist for the CLOZER unit. He is described as a powerful character skilled in using various weapon types, capable of selecting the optimal weapon for each Kaiju.
- Suited: A genius physicist and biologist, Suited is responsible for developing CLOZER’s arsenal through Kaiju-based research. Her imaginative approach allows her to create a wide range of unique weapons.
These original characters will play a central role in the game’s exclusive storyline.
Pre-Registration Milestones and Rewards
The pre-registration campaign for Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME has seen significant success, surpassing 850,000 sign-ups. This milestone has unlocked substantial rewards for all players at launch, including a 4-star version of Mina Ashiro and a 4-star version of Soshiro Hoshina. An ultimate reward tier has also been announced as the campaign continues. The game had previously surpassed 500,000 global pre-registrations, already securing numerous rewards for players.
