Digital manga subscription service Azuki announced at its Otakon 2025 panel on Saturday that it has added four new manga series to its catalog, including ALTERNATIVE[SELF LINER NOTE] and BONDS. The additions stem from new partnerships with indie publishers Manga Mavericks Books and Star Fruit Books, making the titles available immediately via Azuki’s iOS, Android, and web applications.
New Offerings from Manga Mavericks Books
The collaboration with Manga Mavericks Books brings three new series to Azuki, expanding the platform’s diverse range of titles. These series delve into themes ranging from musical introspection to a reimagined classic journey and a humorous take on hellish construction work.
ALTERNATIVE[SELF LINER NOTE] by Chiaki Yagura
ALTERNATIVE[SELF LINER NOTE] by Chiaki Yagura explores the struggles of a musician grappling with creative slumps and the pressure of living up to artistic legacies. The manga centers on a 28-year-old artist reflecting on what they have achieved compared to entertainers who made their mark by age 27. The narrative delves into themes of music, creative blocks, and self-expression.
BONDS by ZENZO
ZENZO’s BONDS offers an alternative perspective on the classic “Journey to the West” tale. The story follows Son Goku and Sanzo at the nascent stages of their arduous journey, where trust is fragile. Their evolving relationship faces an early test as Sanzo’s doubts create a rift between them, questioning whether adversity will strengthen their bond or end their quest prematurely.
Zigoku’s Foreman by 9banta
Adding a comedic and supernatural element, Zigoku’s Foreman by 9banta introduces Mizuchi, a former human who died and became an unruly demon foreman in hell. Equipped with a magic sword and super strength, Mizuchi oversees a motley crew of underlings. Despite their infernal setting, Mizuchi and his crew are depicted as being “hellbent on doing anything aside from their work,” promising a lighthearted take on the underworld.
New Addition from Star Fruit Books
In addition to the Manga Mavericks titles, Azuki also announced a new series from indie publisher Star Fruit Books, further diversifying its independent manga selection.
Treime by Gamu-Chan
Treime by Gamu-Chan introduces Arglont Von Byron, a top-tier vampire hunter with an intense hatred for the bloodsucking creatures, despite never having been personally harmed by one. The story begins as Arglont confronts the darkness, believing himself prepared for what he might face. His resolve is tested when he gains the opportunity to eradicate Abraham, a vampire who has existed for 500 years.
All four new titles are available for immediate reading through Azuki’s platforms.
