The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Kei Urana’s dark fantasy manga, Gachiakuta, has finally arrived, drawing viewers into its gritty dystopian world. For fans eager to follow protagonist Rudo’s perilous journey, understanding the anime’s release schedule is key, especially when looking for specific installments like “Episode 5.”

The Gachiakuta anime premiered in July 2025, with new episodes releasing weekly.

What is Gachiakuta? A World Built on Waste

Gachiakuta plunges readers and viewers into a society sharply divided between the opulent “Sphere,” where the wealthy reside, and “The Pit,” a desolate, trash-filled wasteland below. The rich routinely discard their waste, and even criminals, into this abyss.

The story follows Rudo, a young boy living in the slums of the floating city. He is falsely accused of murder and unjustly cast into The Pit, a “hellscape of mutated garbage beasts.” Rather than succumbing to the harsh environment, Rudo discovers he possesses a unique ability linked to objects he cherishes, known as “Vital Instruments.” These items, imbued with a “soul” or “Anima” from careful handling, become powerful weapons in his hands. To survive and seek vengeance against those who wronged him, Rudo joins a group known as “Cleaners,” individuals who utilize Vital Instruments to combat the monstrous trash beasts. The series explores themes of societal neglect, class struggle, and the value found in discarded things.

The Creators Behind the Grime and Grit

Gachiakuta is written and illustrated by Kei Urana, with graffiti artist Hideyoshi Andou credited for the series’ distinctive graffiti designs. Urana previously worked as an assistant to Atsushi Ohkubo, known for Soul Eater and Fire Force, and her artistic style has been noted as a spiritual successor. Studio Bones, renowned for its work on titles like My Hero Academia and Fullmetal Alchemist, is at the helm of the anime adaptation. Fumihiko Suganuma directs the series, with Hiroshi Seko handling series composition and Satoshi Ishino as character designer and chief animation director. Taku Iwasaki is composing the anime’s music.

Gachiakuta Anime: Release Schedule and Episode 5 Details

The Gachiakuta anime began airing in July 2025 and is expected to have a 24-episode run for its first season, releasing without breaks. New episodes are released on Sundays.

Specifically, Gachiakuta Episode 5, titled “Raiders,” was released on Sunday, August 3, 2025. It subsequently became available for streaming on August 10, 2025, at 11:30 PM JST. This episode was initially delayed from its original July 20 release date due to special election coverage in Japan.

Where to Watch Gachiakuta Episode 5

For international viewers, Gachiakuta Episode 5, along with other episodes, is available to stream on Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll offers the series in its original Japanese audio with English subtitles, and same-day English dubs are also provided. The anime is also accessible on Prime Video and Apple TV in some regions.

In “Raiders,” Rudo delves deeper into his acquaintance with the Cleaners at their headquarters. The episode introduces a new layer of conflict with the appearance of “Raiders,” human antagonists that the Cleaners will likely confront in future episodes. It also hints at a mysterious figure with sinister plans for Rudo. Viewers can expect to see Rudo continuing to acclimate to his new life in The Pit and learning more about the Cleaners’ operations.

The Gachiakuta anime aims to bring the manga’s bold art style and timely story to life, promising an action-packed and emotionally resonant viewing experience.
