Reflecting on Soborou’s Previous Works
Soborou has established a notable presence in the manga industry, primarily through works characterized by their romantic comedy and ecchi elements.
The Impact of ‘Why the Hell are You Here, Teacher!?’
Soborou’s most famous work, Why the Hell are You Here, Teacher!? (original Japanese title: Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!?), captivated readers with its premise of students consistently finding themselves in awkward, sexually charged situations with their teachers. The manga began serialization in 2016, initially as a series of one-shots titled Golden Times, before being formally serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine from April 2017.
The series garnered significant popularity, leading to a television anime adaptation that premiered in April 2019, followed by an OVA episode in December 2019. Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime for streaming on HIDIVE and Crunchyroll, also providing an English dub. The manga itself went on hiatus in August 2020 due to the author’s sudden illness, only to resume publication four years later in August 2024. Why the Hell are You Here, Teacher!? concluded its run on October 21, 2024, with Kodansha collecting its chapters into 12 tankōbon volumes.
Other Recent Projects
In addition to Why the Hell are You Here, Teacher!?, Soborou collaborated with writer Shigemitsu Harada on the manga Love and Peace. This series was launched in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine in August 2022 and concluded in October 2023, with its third and final compiled volume published in December 2023.
The upcoming release of Jukebox marks another new chapter for Soborou, as the creator continues to deliver unique and engaging stories to the manga community following a busy period of concluding previous successful titles.
