Shonen Jump+’s Decade of Digital Dominance
Launched by Shueisha on September 22, 2014, Shonen Jump+ quickly established itself as a leading digital manga platform. It hosts original series alongside digital editions of Weekly Shonen Jump and other Shueisha manga magazines. Over its ten-year history, Shonen Jump+ has been the birthplace of numerous global hits, including Spy × Family, Kaiju No. 8, Chainsaw Man, and Dandadan, drawing in millions of readers and significantly influencing the manga landscape. The platform has also been recognized for its role in discovering new talent, with over 2,000 one-shot works published since its inception.
The app has amassed over 29 million cumulative downloads and, as of February 2022, boasted approximately 4.6 million weekly active users across its app and website. Its success is partly attributed to its diverse content, appealing to both male and female readers, with 18-to-24-year-olds forming its largest demographic.
Broader 10th Anniversary Celebrations
The “1-Shot Summer Festival” is just one facet of Shonen Jump+’s extensive 10th-anniversary initiatives. Shueisha has unveiled a series of commemorative projects that underscore the platform’s impact and future ambitions:
Shonen Jump+ Exhibition
A dedicated exhibition titled “Shonen Jump+ Exhibition JUMP PLUS 10TH ANNIVERSARY” is scheduled to take place in Tokyo from April 18 to May 18, 2025. This event will offer visitors an immersive experience into the platform’s history, showcasing original artwork, videos, and installations from popular series like SPY×FAMILY, Kaiju No. 8, and Dandadan.
Major Manga Awards and Initiatives
Shonen Jump+ is also hosting a large-scale “Shonen Jump+ 10th Anniversary Manga Award,” featuring 10 popular manga artists as special judges and a prize pool exceeding 10 million yen, making it the largest manga award in the platform’s history. Additionally, a “One-Shot Discovery Portal” was launched in October 2024, archiving over 2,000 one-shot manga released on the platform and featuring recommendations and interviews.
One-Shot Anime Project
In a significant move to bridge manga and animation, Shueisha announced a “Shonen Jump+ One-shot Anime Project” in May 2025. This initiative will see three prominent animation studios—WIT Studio, Production I.G, and Contrail—each producing an anime adaptation based on a standout one-shot from the platform’s extensive library. The project aims to further polish the talent discovered through one-shots and experiment with new formats for global audiences.
These celebrations mark a significant milestone for Shonen Jump+, reinforcing its position as a powerhouse in the digital manga industry and a vital incubator for the next generation of manga and anime hits.
