Kotoyama’s Call of the Night -Paradise Arc- short manga is officially set to conclude on August 27, 2025, with its final chapter appearing in the 39th issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. The brief new story arc, which commenced serialization on July 2, 2025, was launched to coincide with the premiere of the second season of the Call of the Night anime adaptation.

The Brief Return to the Night

The Paradise Arc served as a special short-term serialization, bringing fans back into the nocturnal world of Call of the Night (also known as Yofukashi no Uta). This new storyline followed Ko Yamori and his detective associate, Anko, as they ventured into a secluded town to investigate a mysterious cult known as “Paradise.” The cult, which seemed to be run by a vampire leader, focused on themes of youth and immortality, adding a fresh mystery to the established universe.

The original Call of the Night manga, written and illustrated by Kotoyama, ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from August 2019 until its conclusion on January 24, 2024, with its 200th chapter. The manga spans 20 compiled tankōbon volumes. Viz Media has licensed the original manga for English release in North America.

Anime Adaptation and Its Second Season

The first season of the Call of the Night anime adaptation, produced by LIDEN FILMS, aired from July to September 2022. The anime gained significant popularity for its unique atmosphere and exploration of themes like sleeplessness, freedom, and self-discovery through the nighttime adventures of protagonist Ko Yamori and the vampire Nazuna Nanakusa.

The highly anticipated second season of the anime premiered on July 4, 2025, just after the launch of the Paradise Arc manga. The short manga’s release was specifically designed to promote and complement the ongoing second season, providing additional content for fans while the anime continues its broadcast.

Fan Reception and Future Prospects

The announcement of the Paradise Arc‘s conclusion has evoked mixed feelings among the fanbase, with some expressing sadness at its brevity but also excitement to see how this particular storyline wraps up. Given that the original manga had an ending that some fans found open-ended, the Paradise Arc provided an opportunity to expand on the world and characters in a side story format. While there was speculation about whether this arc would rewrite the original ending, it was largely understood to be an extension or an exploration of events before the final chapter, offering more insight into characters like Ko and Anko.

With the conclusion of the Paradise Arc, the focus for fans will now shift back to the ongoing second season of the anime, which continues to bring Kotoyama’s unique narrative to life on screen.
