The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Kocha Agasawa’s romantic comedy manga, “You and I Are Polar Opposites” (Seihantai na Kimi to Boku), has announced three core cast members set to bring its contrasting protagonists to life. Revealed during Anime Expo 2025, the series is slated for a January 2026 premiere.
The production team confirmed Sayumi Suzushiro will voice the energetic heroine, Suzuki, while Shogo Sakata will portray the quiet and outspoken male lead, Tani. Additionally, acclaimed Japanese DJ and music producer tofubeats has been tapped to compose the anime’s soundtrack.
Meet the Main Characters and Their Voices
The series centers on the endearing dynamic between Miyu Suzuki and Yuusuke Tani, two high school students with seemingly opposite personalities who navigate the complexities of budding romance.
Sayumi Suzushiro as Suzuki
Sayumi Suzushiro, known for her role as Nijika Ijichi in BOCCHI THE ROCK!, takes on the character of Suzuki. Suzuki is depicted as an outgoing and bubbly high school girl who often worries about how others perceive her. She finds herself drawn to Tani’s unyielding authenticity, a trait she admires despite her own tendencies to follow the crowd.
Suzushiro expressed her enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I’m a huge fan of the original manga, so when I got the role, I was over the moon.” She also noted her deep connection to the character, feeling that she was “playing myself” due to the many relatable aspects of Suzuki’s personality, particularly her journey to understand her true feelings and face others sincerely.
Shogo Sakata as Tani
Voicing the stoic yet honest Yusuke Tani is Shogo Sakata, recognized for his work as Aki Hayakawa in Chainsaw Man. Tani is characterized as a reserved boy who easily speaks his mind and doesn’t appear to be swayed by others’ opinions.
Sakata, a long-time reader of the manga since its serialization on Jump+, shared his surprise and joy at joining the adaptation. He commented on the series’ “pop taste and fresh, youthful dialogues” while also appreciating its incorporation of universal struggles. Sakata aims to portray Tani’s evolution as he interacts with Suzuki, capturing the nuances of a character who initially “completes the world on his own.”
