Lucasfilm has announced that Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 will officially premiere on Disney+ on October 29, 2025, with new visuals offering a glimpse into the upcoming animated anthology. The third installment of the critically acclaimed series will once again return to its roots, featuring nine animated shorts created by nine prominent Japanese animation studios. This volume promises both new narratives and continuations of beloved stories from the first season, along with a focus on Japanese animation talent.

A Return to Anime Roots with Acclaimed Studios

Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 marks a deliberate return to collaborating exclusively with Japanese animation studios, a format that defined the original critically acclaimed first volume. This decision underscores the series’ commitment to showcasing diverse artistic interpretations of the Star Wars universe through the distinctive lens of Japanese animation.

The roster of studios contributing to Volume 3 includes a mix of returning favorites from the inaugural season and exciting newcomers:

  • Returning Studios: Kamikaze Douga, Kinema Citrus Co., Production I.G, and Trigger.
  • New Studios: ANIMA (in co-production with Kamikaze Douga), David Production, Polygon Pictures, Project Studio Q, and WIT Studio.

Notable among the new additions are David Production, known for “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,” and WIT Studio, celebrated for their work on the first three seasons of “Attack on Titan.” Polygon Pictures, with a history including “Transformers Prime” and “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” also joins the lineup.

New and Returning Stories to Explore the Galaxy

Volume 3 will consist of nine shorts, with three of them continuing narratives from fan-favorite episodes of the first volume. These highly anticipated sequels include:

  • “The Duel: Payback” from Kamikaze Douga, a follow-up to “The Duel.”
  • “The Village Bride: The Lost Ones” from Kinema Citrus Co., expanding on “The Village Bride.”
  • “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” from Production I.G, continuing the story of “The Ninth Jedi,” which is widely considered one of Volume 1’s best episodes.

In addition to these continuations, six entirely new stories will be presented. Initial details for some of these new shorts have begun to emerge:

  • “Black” (David Production): Directed by Shinya Ohira (known for Studio Ghibli work and “Kill Bill: Vol. 1” animated segment), this episode features a “psychedelic battle” within the mind of an Imperial soldier, showcasing unique visual styles, including a TIE fighter vs. X-wing battle.
  • “Yuko’s Treasure” (Kinema Citrus Co.): This short will see a return to the iconic planet Tatooine, with protagonist Yuko crashing her speeder and interacting with Jawas in Mos Eisley. This non-canon exploration of Tatooine allows for fresh perspectives on the familiar desert world.
  • Other new stories include “The Smuggler” from Trigger, “The Bounty Hunters” from Wit Studio, and “The Song of Four Wings” from Project Studio Q.

The Ninth Jedi Spin-Off Series Also Announced

Further expanding the Star Wars: Visions universe, a new spin-off series titled Star Wars: Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi has been announced, set to premiere in 2026. This standalone series will offer longer-form storytelling, continuing the journey of Kara from the original “The Ninth Jedi” short. Kenji Kamiyama, who wrote and directed the Volume 1 short, will return as the supervising director for the spin-off, with Production I.G also returning as the studio. The spin-off will be set after the events of the first two shorts, with Kara searching for her father.

The unveiling of new visuals for Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 at events like Anime NYC, alongside the confirmed release date and detailed studio list, has generated considerable excitement among fans eagerly awaiting more unique interpretations of the galaxy far, far away.
